Combination resumes (or hybrid resumes) suit mid-career professionals and people with long work histories. They also work well for people with special skills and a strong track record of accomplishments. Combination resumes combine the best of chronological and functional resumes, allowing you to highlight choice skills and accomplishments and downplay your employers, job titles and time spent in past positions.
Like a functional resume, a combination resume includes your profile, objective, key accomplishments and a brief work history. Your key accomplishments should cluster your achievements, focusing on results and using numbers whenever possible. If you’re changing careers, write your accomplishments so that they suit the job you’re pursuing. For example, if you want to switch from sales to event planning, consider clustering your skills under relevant titles such as contract negotiation, client management, and project management.
Your combination resume should provide only a short work history – put it toward the end of your resume. Just list employers, job titles, cities, and years.
Sections
A combination resume combines the sections from chronological and functional resumes. Group your skills, experiences and talents into the following sections:Personal details (your name, address, phone number, email address)
Objective (the position you seek)
Key Accomplishments (cluster your accomplishments under three functional categories)
Experience (list your positions, employers and dates)
Education (your education and training)
Awards and Recognition (note any awards or special recognition you’ve received)
