2010 opportunities push Lower Mainland companies
to re-evaluate their ability to attract and retain top talent
(Vancouver, BC) -- There is a large and impending challenge for companies wanting to stay competitive in their hiring practices, according to ongoing research being conducted by leading HR specialist Sandra Reder, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Vancouver-based Vertical Bridge. According to Reder, the challenges are created by a strong economy, retiring baby boomers and the demands made on the available candidate pool by the development for the upcoming 2010 Olympics.
“This is the start of an employee-driven downsizing” says Reder. “And it’s the first time that developed countries are experiencing this on a global level. Australia and New Zealand are already feeling the impact and companies are closing because they don’t have enough staff. We are right on the edge of something that will have an enormous negative impact on companies and their bottom lines. Corporations of all sizes, in all sectors have been experiencing challenges in finding talent to support their strategic initiatives.”
Reder cautions that companies will have to change their way of not just doing business, but their approach to recruiting in order to hire and retain good employees. Retaining employees is one of the key components of staying competitive and profitable. She explains; “Companies will either have to consider working with firms that will help them to attract, retain and optimize their staff, hire someone internally to focus on this or look to business consultants to try to minimize all the negative impacts of running a company without the human capital that is required.”
One of the answers, says Reder, is for companies to strive to become An Employer of Choice. A relatively new term, it describes employers who hold high value in the human resources within their organization. They strive to make their company the best place to work. They look to take a strategic position and enjoy the benefit of having higher productivity, morale, and employee retention levels and a brand within the market as being the best in their industry sector.
