Pre-employment Screening |
|
Hiring the right people for your company has a HUGE impact on whether or not your organization will be successful. With that in mind, it’s critical to properly prescreen the people you are considering for a position in your company.
If you're screening multiple candidates for one position or in a hiring phase and have lots of positions to fill, the reality is that even the most efficient HR Departments can get bogged down under the load. And, let’s face it, on a fun meter, checking references ranks right up there with going to the dentist or doing taxes for most of us.
As time consuming as it can be, performing comprehensive pre-employment screening is crucial if a company is to weed out dishonest or otherwise undesirable job applicants.
Some of the key things you need to do or ask when conducting a reference check are:
Consistently ask the same questions to each reference
Find out how long they have been acquainted
Learn the nature of the relationship
Ask questions that relate to the skills needed for the position you are hiring for
Learn whether, if the opportunity arose, the reference would rehire this candidate
Remember, no matter how positive you are about the people you’ve short listed to fill a position, it’s better to know everything up front, than to look back and regret not digging a little deeper.
If you are unsure of how to properly pre-screen applicants, or you can't afford the time involved, HRscreening.ca can conduct in-depth background research on your behalf that is customized to suit your specific needs.
