PURPOSE: To efficiently manage employees and quality of workmanship at the garage and/or remote facilities. This includes management of mechanics, supervisors, service persons, inventory of parts and equipment, budget implementation, implementations of policies and procedures, purchasing management and control and union issues. This position will interface with MRD, Operations, OH&S, Safety & Development, Operation Controls, Human Resources and various corporate key interfaces.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Determine and prioritize repairs to ensure that safety goals and requirements are met, fulfill operational/business needs and productivity goals are met and maintained.
  • Assign maintenance and contract personnel to ensure maintenance resources are used economically, meet maintenance workload needs and meet other sub-objectives.
  • Identify and resolve quality and productivity issues.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained; proper procedures (repair and safety) are followed.
  • Ensure safe and pleasant work environment, including facility and property cleaning and maintenance.
  • Ensure that the use of parts, vendors, consumable products are at the lowest possible cost.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to corporate policies.
  • Communicate effectively with internal partners regarding equipment availability.
  • Coach, provide direction and appropriately implement discipline. In accordance with labor contract.
  • Resolve employee complaints, concerns and grievances in a timely manner.
  • Manage employee lost time (absences), light duty schedules, wages, vacations and other leaves.
  • Monitors employee performance for safety compliance and conduct regular safety meetings
  • Develop and maintain business relationship with other departments within the company.
  • Ensure compliance with local, federal and provincial regulations.


EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor degree in Business or Management preferred
  • Applicable Provincial Journeyman's Certificate or Red Seal Certificate (Truck & Transport Mechanic)





EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Union knowledge and experience preferred
  • 5 plus years of supervisory experience in ground Transportation, Maintenance or related field required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Ability to efficiently work within an established budget.
  • Ensure that the department meets company goals.
  • Able to work independently and set and meet own deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management and support staff.
  • Understanding of corporate culture, policies and goals and how to implement them as a manager.
  • Able to defuse conflicts among employees.
  • Able to develop and utilize a business strategy and plan.
  • Ability to exercise considerable diplomacy, judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with company and governmental agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Leadership ability including motivating, coaching, developing and counseling employees.
  • Ability to make decisions.
  • Strong Analytical and organizational skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Strong technical knowledge of coaches
