About the Organization
Located at the beautiful northern tip of Vancouver Island, the Kwakiutl Indian Band is a small, ocean-side community located approximately 10 kilometers from Port Hardy. Governed by four Hereditary Chiefs in addition to the elected Kwakiutl Chief and Council, we represent the interests of the local Kwakiutl population.
The Kwakiutl Health Centre team works in direct consultation with the community to provide a culturally integrated and holistic approach to health and wellness. Under the administration of the Health Director, our dedicated and close-knit team comprises a Home and Community Care Nurse, Community Health Representative,Mental Health and Substance Clinician, Child and Youth Worker and Receptionist/Patient Travel Clerk.

About the Area

About the Opportunity
Currently, we are searching for a Community Wellness Worker to join our team, located at Kwakiutl Traditional Territories- Northern Vancouver Island.
Reporting to the Health Director, you will provide client-focused access to trauma-informed treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals and families experiencing mental health and addictions issues.
While building community relationships, you will promote a culturally safe, healthy and supportive environment that instills a sense of dignity and respect. Within the scope of practice and credentials, you will provide mental health and addictions counselling. You will provide advocacy, education, referrals and programs and activities to individuals, groups and families in the community.
In order to qualify for this role, you will have a Bachelor of Social Work or a recognized Human Service Bachelor of Art in Substance Abuse or Mental Health Counseling combined with a minimum of one year of related work experience.
Preference will be given to registered professional clinical members of an Accredited Professional Association or College (BCACC or BCASW) or those certified through the Indigenous Certification Board of Canada.
Preference may be given to qualified applicants who are of Aboriginal ancestry.

The successful candidate must also successfully undergo a Vulnerable Criminal Record Check. Preference may be given to qualified applicants who are of Aboriginal ancestry and applicants with direct experience in a recognized Human Service field specializing in mental health and addictions counselling and programming.
