Position Overview: Reporting directly to the condition monitoring manager, the successful candidate will be responsible to aggregate, correlate and create Finning (Canada) customer recommendations using the 5 elements of condition monitoring in order to provide critical suggested actions to help customers lower owning and operating costs, improve availability, and reduce warranty costs. These recommendations will improve customer loyalty, increase Finning (Canada) market share, and grow parts and service sales, while reducing the customer's equipment life-cycle costs through equipment management efficiency.

The Condition Monitoring Advisors (CMAs) will monitor the elements of equipment fluid analysis, equipment inspections, electronic data, repair history and site conditions to provide relevant recommendations as indicated by the data.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions:
  • Aggregate and correlate the five elements of condition monitoring, where all are available
  • Maintains working knowledge for each of the condition monitoring five elements
  • Provides equipment recommendations to Finning EMSolutions customers and Finning Key stake holders
  • Uses enabling software tools & systems to prioritize and analyze condition monitoring data inputs
  • Extracts or is provided data from the appropriate business systems including customer, dealer and contractor sources
  • Provides information for equipment management lead tracking and resolution
  • Prepares standard written reports of recommendations for customers and their Caterpillar dealers on a monthly basis
  • Facilitates ongoing meetings with customers and key Finning stakeholders
  • Communicates verbal recommendations as required to customer and key Finning stakeholders
  • Builds collaborative relationships & acts as a consultant with customers, and key Finning stakeholders
  • Prepare accurate timely and effective recommendation and service offerings that are world class value added services for our customers
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to organize and manage large quantities of data with consistency and accuracy
  • Utilize technical knowledge, data and skill to determine proper service recommendations
  • Obtain technical assistance in difficult and unusual conditions
  • Effectively participate as part of a team, provide value added services for the customer base, and assist where appropriate and requesting assistance when needed
  • Achieve customer focus by delivering high quality, cost effective services
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures and safety regulations
  • Use all safety equipment as necessary
  • Report any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Improve Customer Equipment Up Time & improving customer equipment lifecycle costs
  • Responsibility to monitor, manage, alert and report to customer and Finning stake holder
  • Provides equipment management services for at least 300 -500 assets
  • Incremental part sales & POPS - C growth


Specific Skills & Knowledge:
  • The self-motivated individual will possess mechanical aptitude coupled with troubleshooting ability, and communication and presentation skills
  • Dedication to customer service, as well as excellent time management and independent problem solving skills will also be key to this role
  • Knowledge of machine application and the potential for affecting product health coupled with a good understanding of the relationship between product health and commercial impact will be considered assets
  • Working knowledge of engines, power train, hydraulic systems, Product Link, VIMS, inspection process, equipment lifecycle planning, Fluid Analysis Services, and the Service Information System is desired
  • The applicant should have a strong understanding of General Line equipment, including the overall operation and design
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form
  • Ability to read and understand materials commonly used in service and warranty (service and parts manuals, technical bulletins and other related articles)
  • Proficient in the use of basic computer software programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • After proper instruction, be able to easily comprehend and efficiently navigate a business computer system like Vision Link, ECA and ERP (like SAP, Lawson, or equivalent)
  • Proficient in English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and math skills
  • Product knowledge of CAT parts, components, equipment and services offered by Finning Canada and competitors
  • Must have sufficient mechanical knowledge to understand repair procedures and processes, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Basic technical, mechanical knowledge in repairing, reconditioning CAT machines preferred
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with all co-workers, customers and the general public
  • Use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority
  • Strong Analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Must be willing to learn about products sold and services and other departmental functions and procedures
  • Excellent phone and customer skills
  • Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment


Education & Experience:
  • Journey Person Red Seal certification or Mechanical Engineering/Technologist coupled with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience will be an asset
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in service and/or administration in related field or equivalent technical background
  • Service or parts experience at Finning or another Caterpillar dealer preferred

  • Self-motivated and detail oriented; work with minimum supervision
  • Stand/walk 1-2 hours a day. Sit 6-7 hours a day
  • Working shift may reflect an offset Tuesday - Saturday rotation
  • Office/Inside environment
  • Valid Alberta Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
  • Occasional travel and overnight stays
