Position Overview:

The Customer Systems Engineering Specialist (CSES) - Account Aligned is a pre-sales role which requires a mixture of business/ sales ability, and technical skills. The CSES is the primary technical sales support function for the front line sales executives in conceptualizing, qualifying, positioning, and closing complex/integrated technology solutions. The CSES will work with TELUS clients to analyze their business requirements and develop technology solutions to resolve client business issues.

Demonstrated design expertise shall include WAN, LAN, Traditional Voice/Data, Internet, CPE for voice/LAN/WAN, IP applications, Hosting and Enterprise IT Application Services.

Key Responsibilities:
    •Work closely with Account Managers in developing and designing complex solutions to meet customer requirements •Respond to RFQs, RFIs, and RFPs: Create proposed solutions with application drawings and related technical materials for presentation to prospective customers •Ensure engineering and technical integrity of TELUS solutions •Be the architect and translator of complex technical information into compelling and understandable business propositions for the client •Communicate complex technical solutions to technical and non-technical client base •Communicate technical solutions to internal provisioning team for implementation •Maintain currency with new developments in the telecommunications industry •Analyze TELUS products and services against those offered by the competition •Understand and communicate the functionality and benefits of specific TELUS products, services, and integrated solutions •Conduct presentations to both customer and TELUS audiences •Assume direct technical accountability at the account, module or territory level •Take an active role in the development of the business/account strategic plans with the sales team •Build customer relationships at the appropriate levels as defined by account strategies •Be an integral member of the business and technical solution from conception through the detailed phase of sales opportunities •Take responsibility for TELUS client architecture, network design, and specifications across all TELUS services •Develop strong working relationships with engineering, marketing, and solutions architects as required to design and customize client solutions

In addition to technical skills, a fully qualified CSES must demonstrate the use of management skills (e.g. communication, coaching, sales process, etc.) that are essential to a front line sales organization. The combination of technology and customer facing competencies results in individuals that succeed with complex solution/business consulting.


Qualifications:


Required Knowledge:
    •Data networking products, complex data solutions, and network design including: Routing, switching, IP networks, VPNs, servers, security and hosting •Internet technologies, architecture, and design •Convergence technology including: Voice networks and associated premise hardware / VoIP •IP web technologies, particularly security, firewalls, VPNs, web commerce, web architecture •Traditional Telco voice networking technologies (ISDN BRI/PRI, Centrex, etc.) •Emerging wireless technologies (GPRS, 1X, EVDO, Bluetooth, 802.11x) is desirable •(Collaboration): Audio/visual, CPE, and Videoconferencing industry is desirable •Advanced PC skills including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, internet

Required Skills & Abilities:



The CSES must be capable of consulting with customers at a business level and demonstrate the following:
    •Ability to formulate solutions in a complex technology and business environment •Ability to quickly learn the key issues from a business perspective associated with wireless LAN/WAN networks - VPN, firewalls, mobile IP, IP addressing, etc •Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills; be seen as a peer and advisor to executive-level clients leading them to embrace TELUS solutions as strategic to their business •Effective time management and organizational skills •Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills •Ability to discuss customer solution benefits with financial acumen skills •Demonstrated competency to develop competitive value-add solutions through creativity and innovation •Ability to translate and communicate business opportunities into technical requirements •Bilingualism (English/French) is a definite asset •Government level security clearance is a definite asset

Required Professional Designation/Certification:
    •Post-secondary degree or technical diploma in computer science / engineering or equivalent •Minimum CCNA/CCDA or in-progress networking certification •Sales training/Account planning is a definite asset

Required Experience:
    •5+ years of related work experience in telecommunications, wireless and/or IT industry •Minimum of 2 years in a pre-sales engineering role •Minimum of 5 years "network design" experience in the telecommunication industry ideally dealing with WANs and LANs, SANs, MANs, Internet/IP, RAS, and networking hardware (including routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) •Previous industry experience in solution development, pre-sales, consulting or customer-facing technical roles •Demonstrated experience in identifying and understanding customer technical/business needs and translating them into viable integrated solutions •Partnership or consultative selling experience is an asset •Experience in one of the following verticals: Government, utilities, transportation, insurance or professional services
