About the Role

PolicyWise currently has an exciting opportunity for a Data Coordinator to join the team in Edmonton, Alberta.

Reporting to the Director of Data Operations, the Data Coordinator is responsible for data and analytics projects that deliver on our mission to generate and mobilize evidence to improve lives. This position will have a significant role in data-related initiatives and ongoing operations. The Data Coordinator will develop new partnership opportunities with external organizations that help them leverage data and analytics to improve service and outcomes.

The Data Coordinator will work with community organizations, researchers and decision makers to make the biggest impact with their data. The role includes project coordination of priority initiatives, stakeholder engagement, data management, development of metadata, data extraction, negotiation of agreements, conducting analysis, preparing tables and figures, assessing disclosure risk, and other duties as assigned.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engaging stakeholders and managing partnerships between organizations with varying agendas
  • Project planning and measurement/reporting of success
  • Seeking and developing new opportunities to collaborate with communities and organizations and leverage the data-related capabilities of PolicyWise
  • Supporting the development of innovative ideas to leverage data and technology for better outcomes
  • Supporting knowledge mobilization and capacity building activities that build data analytic and evaluation competencies in external stakeholders
  • Managing processes for data sharing and analysis, including negotiation of agreements and supporting external users of PolicyWise data assets.
  • Liaising with potential stakeholders/researchers and promote/market services to potential users (e.g. academic staff, government, community researchers, trainees)
  • Preparing project related documents for dissemination and communication (e.g. plans, agreements, meeting notes, presentations, summaries of learnings etc.)
  • Work with a diverse array of datasets from research studies to service data. This includes creating extracts, applying de-identification techniques and data linkage.
  • Manipulate data and conduct analysis for researchers working on a range of deliverables, using statistical packages.
  • Employ strategies to optimize data quality e.g., data cleaning, recoding and validation
  • Apply basic and advanced statistical methods to support internal and external users in data analysis.
  • Prepare tables, graphs and data related presentations

Training and development will be provided to build on the knowledge, experience and transferrable skills of the successful candidate.

About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a Masters degree (preferred) or a post-secondary degree in health, social science or other related disciplines(e.g., social work or public health, statistics) combined with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience.

Please note that candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and education may still be considered.

  • Good understanding of research ethics, data security, and information privacy
  • Experience working with multi-stakeholder groups and providing support services
  • Experience working in a client-serving, social service nonprofit organization
  • Understanding of data and metadata development and management
  • Experience with the implementation, configuration and use of frontline client management systems such as ETO, Penelope, Sharevision, HIFIS, etc.
  • Experience with R and MS SQL Server

In order to be successful in this role, you will have a demonstrated understanding of research ethics, data security, and information privacy. Experience working with diverse populations and in a client-serving, non-profit organization will be considered an asset for this role.
