Job Description

12-month contract Digital Architect role providing architectural leadership across a portfolio of digital transformation initiatives within a complex public-sector environment.

Digital Architect role spanning cloud-native design, system integration, legacy modernization, API management, security, and CI/CD practices.
High-ownership role with real accountability for solution design, working directly alongside UX designers, product owners, and developers as a genuine delivery partner.
Remote work within Canada

What & Why:
Our client is seeking a Digital Architect to provide architectural expertise and strategic guidance across a portfolio of digital transformation projects. This hands-on leadership role balances strategic direction with active participation in design, code review, and team coaching, overseeing solution architecture and ensuring alignment to a common architectural vision as cross-functional agile teams move through iterative delivery. Up to three Digital Architects are being engaged, each working across one to two concurrent projects, with contracts initially for three months and potential extensions of up to 24 months. This is an excellent opportunity to shape architectural vision and standards, influencing how digital services are built across the organization.

Our client is a large public-sector organization's centre for modern digital service delivery, designing and delivering citizen-centred digital products and platforms. Their environment applies agile methodology, human-centred design, and modern development practices across a portfolio of service innovation and digital transformation projects. Architects work as part of cross-functional product teams alongside product owners, UX designers, developers, and business stakeholders, guiding the technical direction of digital services from architecture through to iterative delivery.

You:
You'll bring the following experience and capabilities:

5+ years of experience as a software architect leading the design and delivery of enterprise-scale solutions using modern development stacks in complex organizational environments.
5+ years of demonstrated experience leading cross-functional agile product teams, providing architectural direction, and mentoring developers and technical leads.
5+ years of strong communication skills with proven ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making.
4+ years of proven ability to define and communicate solution architecture for large-scale systems including integrations, modernization strategies, and cloud-native design patterns.
2+ years of experience working with teams that apply UX design, service design, design thinking, or human-centred design approaches.

Nice to Have:

5+ years of experience incrementally transforming legacy systems into modern digital services across multiple releases.
4+ years of experience applying secure development practices and managing identity and access using role-based or attribute-based access control and Zero Trust Architecture principles.
4+ years of experience designing and managing APIs including RESTful services and system integrations.
4+ years of experience working within public sector digital service frameworks or enterprise architecture standards.
2+ years of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, deployment, and observability.
2+ years of experience with containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure as code practices for cloud or hybrid environments.
2+ years of experience with relational and non-relational databases including schema design and performance optimization.

Compensation:
This role pays between $115 to $125/hr.
