Located in Edmonton or Calgary, the Director for Government Relations reports to the Vice President and is responsible for developing and executing TELUS' government relations strategy in Alberta. This Director also oversees relations with stakeholders, public sector partners, and other levels of government relevant to executing TELUS' Alberta government relations strategy.

This Director will support and work closely with other TELUS teams and business units; including TELUS Health, Corporate Citizenship, Regulatory Affairs, Business Solutions, and Technology Strategy. The Director for Government Relations is pivotal in the advancement of key corporate and business objectives through effective government relations.

The primary focus of this role is raising Alberta government and stakeholder awareness of TELUS' business and its role in contributing to a modern, innovative and connected Alberta; securing support for important public policy files, and supporting TELUS' public-sector business-development priorities.

Here's how
    •Support the senior government relations leadership team in the development and implementation of TELUS' pan-Canadian (GR) strategy •Assist the TELUS External Affairs Council in planning and implementing council activities •Collaborate with TELUS teams and business units to develop and implement an Alberta government relations plan that:
      •Builds awareness of TELUS' business, the global context in which we operate, our contributions to Alberta and our social initiatives including the TELUS for Good portfolio •Supports the development and advancement of TELUS' public-sector business opportunities •Advances connectivity initiatives across the province and broad advocacy efforts
    •Lead Alberta government relations issues management including managing the monitoring, internal reporting and planning related to political, legislative and policy developments on a wide variety of issues •Develop and execute outreach programs, campaigns and events for government and stakeholders including elected officials, public servants, political staff, Indigenous leaders and stakeholder groups •Manage the development and delivery of external government relations messaging and supporting communications materials •Provide government-related information and advice to TELUS business units •Support TELUS's participation in industry and business associations, and other 3rd party advocacy and communications activities •Manage relevant databases and contact matrices for government officials and stakeholders and direct consultant activities •Manage TELUS' Alberta lobbyist registration and ensure full compliance with all rules and regulations guiding engagement with the Alberta government


Qualifications:

    •Sought out for your in-depth knowledge of the Government of Alberta, including provincial government processes and people •With a bias for action, and focus on results and driving business outcomes •Respected for your knowledge of the interplay between the various levels of government and key stakeholder groups •Known for your knowledge of Indigenous Affairs & Reconciliation activities •Noted for your comprehension of public affairs and political communication practices including strong awareness of media and stakeholder relations best practices •Valued for your awareness of Alberta lobbying requirements, under the Alberta Lobbyists Act and its related Regulations •Demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills including written and oral presentation skills •Confidently understand complex political, policy and regulatory matters and communicate these in a simplified manner •Recognized for your ability to navigate and adapt priorities in a high-paced corporate, regulatory and public policy environment •Reputation for proactively identify trends, issues and opportunities and the development of strategies •Respected for your availability to work beyond standard business hours •Post-secondary degree in Business/Public Administration, Program Management, Public Relations, and/or Political Science •Minimum 10 years of experience in government relations or public affairs role/s

Great-to-haves
    •Experience in a government relations role with a strong emphasis on public affairs in a complex corporate setting •Legal or Master's degree
