The Mobile Broadband Network Engineering (MBNE) - Radio Access Network (RAN) - Small Cell Design team is a group of highly motivated engineers who have a passion for deploying the network infrastructure to achieve best in class network services to our customers. Our team is responsible for the design and implementation of TELUS' small cell wireless network layer. This includes a broad range of planning and engineering activities, from projects that guide executive strategy to implementing network augments that support customer traffic at special events.

As an MBNE - RAN - Small Cell Designer you'll provide technical leadership to ensure we efficiently deploy network infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for wireless service. Your efforts will ensure that our millions of customers are able to enjoy a world class wireless network experience. Your creativity coupled with strong radio frequency (RF) engineering & big-data analytical skills will allow us to find the most efficient ways of building our wireless network to support existing mobility services and offer new services. Finally, together as a team, we will help shape the future vision of TELUS' wireless network by providing important guidance to executives on how to best address our evolving business challenges.

Here's how
    •By using radio frequency propagation modelling, you will develop novel techniques to simulate wireless coverage, for our existing networks as well as for the future evolution of our networks: 5G and Internet of Things
    •By applying your knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) querying & geographic information system (GIS) technology, you will parse call data records on order to determine the areas in our network that will benefit most from network enhancements
    •Collaborate with other teams like Technology Strategy & Product Development to understand new technologies and services to prepare our team to succeed in an evolving business environment
    •By leading the implementation of wireless capacity augments, you will build working processes with performance and construction teams to drive improvements in customer experience
    •Developing dashboards and data visualizations you will provide insight into network performance that can be shared with executives, peer groups and tools that are implemented in customer portals


Qualifications:


You're the missing piece of the puzzle
    •Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Engineering
    •Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering team
    •Excellent knowledge of industry standard propagation tools: Planet & ATOLL
    •Excellent knowledge of 3GPP: LTE/UMTS/HSPA, radio access network design, optimization and capacity engineering
    •Deep understanding of cell level key performance indicators which would allow for the efficient troubleshooting of network elements
    •Proven experience with programming including: C#, JavaScript (JS), Python
    •With a knack for presenting technical ideas/solutions in concise, meaningful presentations

Great-to-haves
    •Master degree in Computer Science or Engineering
    •Strong understanding of databases and big data, including: MySQL, NoSQL databases: MongoDB, Netezza, Splunk & Hadoop
    •Basic understanding of financial concepts such as net present value (NPV), and return of investment (ROI)
