Position Overview:

As a member of the TELUS Transport Engineering Deployment team, this position will provide technical expertise and leadership on behalf of the team. This role will focus on the implementation of OTN, the TELUS next generation of transport/optical DWDM network and logical engineering build, design, commissioning and provisioning of related optical circuits and wavelengths that interconnect the TELUS network.

We are a team of highly-skilled professionals who enjoy leading innovative solutions. Working with the Transport Engineering Deployment team under the Network Logical Engineering group at TELUS, you will be responsible for developing and championing technological changes within our team.
    •Lead and support the evolution of our network towards a SDN and NFV Optical Transport network architecture •Prime the technology roadmap review •Lead new deployments by employing efficiency initiatives and improving network performance •Supporting core transport engineering, commissioning, test and turn-up of large bandwidth designs •Provide technical analysis and recommendations for development, planning and engineering to ensure smooth integration of solutions •Involved in process improvement and cost reduction initiatives •Strong collaboration with peers and partner teams to support operations on network troubleshooting and outages •Excellent communication skills both verbally and in technical writings, internally to TELUS and with vendors


What YOU will bring:
    •1-3 years of experience in the telecommunications industry preferred •Transport/Optical equipment hands-on experience and remote commissioning and software provisioning as well as equipment physical installation would be an asset •Transport circuit and wavelength troubleshooting •Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in national transport infrastructure, including SONET, OTN, DMDW, Carrier Ethernet, WAN and virtual ring design and interconnection to wireless, access and data/IP networks •Fiber Characterization testing and results analysis •Transport circuits from T1 to 100 Gigabit Ethernet •Ciena and Fujitsu Transport platforms (e.g. CPL, 6500, 5400, FW9500, FW4100, etc) •Routers and Edge Devices •SDN and NFV technologies •Working knowledge of software virtualization •Experience with Network Element management protocols (TL1, CLI, SNMP, NetConf, Yang, gRPC) and network management systems (EMS and NMS) •Agile methodology and DevOps •Equipment and circuit design inventory management system (e.g. NetCracker and Circuit Vision) •Demonstrated strong team work, problem-solving and overall computer and system-engineering skills •Backend and frontend programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, etc) •Database administration (e.g. MySQL) •UNIX based and Linux OS •Innovation and creativity is required to complete unusual or vaguely defined tasks and assist in developing new best practices and procedures •Expected to define project specific scope as it relates to facilities design and analyze software provisioning options •Exceptional organizational skills with ability to meet ever changing priorities •Ability to develop schedules, identify resource requirements and development of business cases •Develops innovative solutions to resolve complex technical issues or business issues •MS Excel (formulas and macros), MS Project, MS Access and Visio •Additional training and education in the areas of business analysis would be an asset •SAP experience would be an asset

Required Professional Designation/Certification:
    •Undergraduate and/or Graduate Degree in Engineering or equivalent or technical diploma with significant hands-on technology operational experience •APEGGA and/or ASET membership •P.Eng would be an asset but EIT would be considered as well •Cisco and/or Juniper certifications would be an asset
