Position Overview: The Component Tester, Engines is responsible for efficiently and effectively testing and troubleshooting 3400, 3500 and C175 series Caterpillar engines within OEM specifications, standard hours and quality metrics. The Component Tester, Engines will also test and troubleshoot other engines as required.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions:
  • The ability to understand and install the engine onto the dynamometer
  • Perform more complex and specialized mechanical or electrical tests on the components
  • Understand and communicate the final test data to the appropriate individuals
  • Complete tests and either approve the component for shipping or reject the component and provide detailed feedback to the assembly area to the corrective action required
  • Ability to perform engine post-dyno work when required


**Candidate selection will be in compliance with the terms of the current Collective Agreement**

Specific Skills & Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated understanding of engine systems and can apply that knowledge
  • Previous knowledge of operating similar engine dyno's is an asset
  • Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, SIS, TMI, WOT and Cat ET
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to lift and handle material weighing up to 40 pounds


Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of any automotive of HD technician apprenticeship training would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a heavy equipment trade**, with at least 2 years spent in an Engine Assembly, Engine Test or Engine Field Service capacity
  • Experience diagnosing / troubleshooting engine failures is an asset


Note:
  • This posting is for a static weekend shift scheduled Fri, Sat, Sun - 12 hours per day. The successful candidate will be required to complete training during a Mon - Thurs / Fri weekday shift and will move to weekends once they have sufficient experience.

  • A condition of employment is the ability to be fit tested and the ability to wear a respirator
  • The Heavy Equipment Trade includes years spent in Disassembly, Subassembly, Inspection, Assembly, Service Bay or Test


Please note that any future shift changes that may occur will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement.
