What You'll Be Doing

The Executive Trust Officer is responsible for the ongoing account management and administration of Indigenous trusts. This involves partnering with a specialized team of professionals within Commercial Banking and Wealth Management dedicated to working with Indigenous clients.

Primary accountability for the timely, accurate, and professional administration of large and complex Indigenous trust accounts. Identifies and mitigates account risks while adhering to all CIBC Trust Policies & Procedures, including cash management, fee collection, account opening, etc.

How You'll Succeed

    Collaboration - Develop and maintain a strong partnership with the Indigenous Markets Team in order to provide excellent client service. Effective and open communication is critical to ensure parties are informed of key activities, milestones and deliverables. Partner effectively with internal experts from the Investment Management and Tax Department, to provide oversight and guidance on client investment and tax issues. Engages external professionals as required. Supervises account investments to ensure consistency with account objectives, constating documents and legislation.
    Trust & Estate Acumen - Ensure the onboarding and account management aligns with the unique needs of Indigenous clients and the characteristics of Indigenous Trusts. Establish effective tracking, monitoring and compliance with the Trust Agreement and responsible for the resolution of all operational, technical and discretionary issues encountered in the management of the Trust. Assist in developing standards in administration and vetting new and/or changes to policies and procedures. Optimizes account administration by identifying and implementing process improvements.
    People Management - Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals' roles support the achievement of the business unit's priorities and CIBC's overall goals. Create a positive work environment and being an effective role model by championing CIBC's mission, vision and values. Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect

Who You Are

    • Estate & Trust Industry experience required (8-10+ years preferred).
    • Expertise in the administration of Indigenous Trusts.
    • MTI/TEP designations are an asset.
    • Ability to motivate and develop others, and to inspire results in others.
    • Well-developed communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with partners and professionals.
    • Exceptional writing skills sufficient to prepare correspondence containing detailed descriptions, explanations and specialized Trust terminology.
    • Detailed knowledge of accounting and investing sufficient to administer a range of complex Trust Accounts.
    • Well-developed organizational skills, particularly the ability to prioritize competing demands.
    • Well- developed problem solving skills sufficient to create unique approaches and solutions to resolve complex issues within required legal and fiduciary requirements
    • Continuous improvement agent and advocate who facilitates the modernization of processes on a pro-active basis.
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
