A career within External Audit services, will provide you with the opportunity to provide a range of Assurance services and business advice to a variety of clients from small, fast growing clients to large entities. Our clients are often well known brands and many have broad international reach. We focus on using the latest technology to reduce the level of manual testing ensuring you'll focus on the most valuable areas of client service and on enhancing corporate governance and the reliability of our clients' information.

Responsibilities

As a Manager, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers with extensive consulting and industry experience, helping our clients solve their complex business issues from strategy to execution. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Proactively assist in the management of a portfolio of clients, while reporting to Senior Managers and above
  • Be involved in the financial management of clients
  • Be actively involved in business development activities to help identify and research opportunities on new/existing clients
  • Contribute to the development of your own and team's technical acumen
  • Develop strategies to solve complex technical challenges
  • Assist in the management and delivering of large projects
  • Train, coach, and supervise staff
  • Keep up to date with local and national business and economic issues
  • Continue to develop internal relationships and your PwC brand


  • Responsibilities for the role include planning the engagement:


  • Analyzing research to ensure thorough understanding of each client's industry and business;
  • Meeting with the client to identify expectations, issues and challenges;
  • Facilitating audit requests on Connect and co-ordinating with our centres of excellence;
  • Establishing the audit approach to the engagement, including identifying technology-enabled efficiencies in the audit; and
  • Making effective use of team members' skills and managing the assignment within time and budgetary requirements.


  • Managing the engagement, this includes:

  • Reviewing the work of the engagement team to ensure compliance with our prescribed standards;
  • Managing interpersonal relationships, providing effective coaching at the client site to team members to create leaders and inspire our people;
  • Demonstrating strong technical knowledge and having the ability to research issues, present alternatives and conclusions;
  • Monitoring the progress of the team members and centres of excellence towards completion of work and adjusting the work plan when necessary;
  • Continuously communicating with the partner and client with respect to engagement progress - risks, issues, variances from plan in terms of time and budget; and
  • Preparing complete financial statements, related notes, and high quality reports for delivery to the client.


  • Completing the engagement, which includes:

  • Taking full ownership of managing assurance engagements from planning to completion;
  • Analyzing engagement economics of self and field staff and explaining variances from plan;
  • Preparing and delivering meaningful individual performance evaluations on a timely basis;
  • Developing strong relationships with your clients to facilitate the completion of client work; and
  • Using business acumen to identify potential value-added opportunities to provide additional services to your clients.


  • Assisting with practice management, which includes:

  • Learning about new service offerings and participating in business development;
  • Assuming a coaching or relationship leader performance management role that aligns staff development with business outcomes;
  • Instructing training or technical courses to our staff;
  • Networking in the local business community;
  • Preparation and delivery of competitive proposals; and
  • Recruiting.


  • Requirements:


  • Minimum of at least five busy seasons of assurance experience in an accounting firm;
  • CPA, CA or equivalent designation;
  • Understand Canadian or international auditing standards;
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS, Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and US GAAP, Accounting Standards for Non-Profit Organizations and Public Sector Accounting Standards;
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage relationships at all levels within PwC and within the client's organization;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that allow you to thrive in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multitasked, fast-paced and changing environment;
  • Proven leadership, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Commitment to providing excellent client service;
  • Ability to work on multiple engagements concurrently; and
  • Specific experience auditing private companies would be an asset.
