About the Organization 

Kugluktuk Housing Association (KHA) operates under a management agreement with the Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) that works to deliver housing solutions that provide an important link to Nunavut communities. KHA is one of 25 Local Housing Organizations (LHO) that delivers subsidized housing in cooperation with the NHC. As such, the KHA Manager has a reporting relationship with the NHC and will be required to work closely with the district offices in carrying out the management function at the KHA.

About the Opportunity

The Kugluktuk Housing Association has an exciting opportunity for a Finance Officer to join our team in Kugluktuk, Nunavut on a full-time basis for a period of two years. 

Reporting to the Housing Association's Manager, you will be responsible for the administration of the day-to-day financial operations of the Kugluktuk Housing Associations financial and related records.

More specifically your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Administering payroll and related records.
  • Processing accounts receivable/payable and related financial records.
  • Preparing and analyzing monthly/quarterly financial statements using Sage ERP300, including Bank Reconciliations, Trial Balance, Statement of Operations, Balance Sheet, General Ledger, Posting Journal, Accounts Receivable Aging, Accounts Payable Aging, and related reports as required. 
  • Maintaining proper accounting records while reporting and liaising with Audit/Consultant staff as well as NHC District office staff.
  • Administering employee benefits, leave/attendance, and other payroll functions.
  • Verifying expenditures and setting up payments for Managers expenditure approval.
  • Providing guidance to the Manager on financial matters.

To qualify for this role, you will have:

  • Diploma/Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • 3 Years of experience in a similar role.
  • Computer experience in Sage ERP300 and Excel.
  • Experience in administering payroll and related records. 
  • Experience processing accounts receivable/payable and related financial records.
  • Experience participating in year-end audit activities.
  • Ability and willingness to train and mentor.
  • Knowledge of the Inuit language, communities, culture, land/Inuit Quajimajatuqangiit (asset).

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving and time management skills. The ability to coordinate many activities simultaneously and to track the progress of all of the activities is crucial. 

Finally, you must be self-motivated and have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually. Please note this is a unionized position.
