Job Description & Summary

A career in our Fraud, Investigations and Regulatory Enforcement (FIRE) services, within our Deals Practice, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients understand where they might have vulnerabilities and develop solutions to manage the risks involved. We prevent, respond to and remediate a wide range of business threats, risks and complex issues.

Our forensic specialists provide solutions and support for clients dealing with regulatory and crisis situations. As part of the team, you'll help provide support to our clients who wish to investigate potential financial crime, support clients responding to regulatory enquiries, deal with cybersecurity breaches and provide expert advice and opinions in legal proceedings. You'll also help clients review and remediate systems and controls to prevent further issues.

We are looking for an individual who is ready for a challenge and an exciting career in forensics. The available Manager position has a focus on forensic accounting and investigative services as well as fraud management services, supporting the senior members of the team in helping clients with an assessment of their anti-fraud regime, review of internal controls and/or investigation of alleged fraudulent activities. This individual should be focused on delivering exceptional value to our clients. The Manager will be reporting directly to Directors and Partners within Forensic Services.

While the recruitment of this individual will primarily be to assist in continuing to grow PwC's Alberta Forensic Services practice, we operate as a national practice across Canada and therefore the ability and willingness to participate in engagements with other offices, and/or travel within Alberta and across Canada (and internationally if required) are important. In addition, we work closely with other Deals competencies in Alberta and a willingness to work with these competencies when and as necessary is required

What you'll create and do


As a Manager, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. PwC Professional skills and responsibilities for this management level include but are not limited to:

• Leading and/or assisting the Directors in leading client engagements, including serving as a main point of contract with clients and overseeing staff members.
• Preparing high quality reports for delivery to clients, detailing procedures undertaken, results, limitations on work performed and recommended actions;
• Performing client pre-acceptance procedures including conflict checks, client investigation checks, drafting engagement letters and setting up map files;
• Participating in the planning and development of the overall forensic investigative plan and strategy for specific projects;
• Application of accounting and auditing skills, in a forensics capacity, on specific projects;
• Coordinating and interacting with clients and third parties to obtain the necessary information to perform the agreed upon procedures;
• Execution of investigative procedures (i.e. financial analysis, interviews, electronic data review, etc.);
• Attending and participating in project team meetings to discuss findings to date and brainstorm on additional areas to investigate and additional forensic services that would be beneficial to the client;
• Preparing external working paper files with documentation of procedures performed and evidence obtained;
• Assisting with the preparation and delivery of internal and external presentations related to our services; and
• Assisting with driving business development efforts for PwC's Alberta Forensic Services practice.



What you'll bring to this role


• An interest in upskilling for a digital world and technology trends, an openness to learning new tools and adapting how you work
• A demonstrated commitment to valuing differences and working alongside diverse people and perspectives
• CA/CPA or equivalent accounting designation is required
• Certified Fraud Examines designation (or commitment to successfully complete the Certified Fraud Examiners "CFE" within one year of joining the Forensic Services practice)
• 1-3 years of experience investigating fraud and allegations of impropriety
• Exceptionally strong oral and written communication skills, particularly interviewing and report writing
• Experience and willingness to participate in business development initiatives
• Experience in working as part of a project team in a lead role
• Strong technical expertise working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, pivot tables, look-ups etc.
• Experience with controls and designing audit testing procedures using a risk based approach.
• Strong track record of compliance with internal policies (e.g. time sheet, status reports, etc.);
• An ability to think critically and creatively during investigations and share thoughts and ideas with the team
• Experience including solving client problems, communicating with clients, facilitating decision making, documentation, managing client expectations and leading a team
• An ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure.
• A high level of personal integrity and energy, a commitment to teamwork and a strong desire to learn.
• The ability and willingness to travel within Canada and internationally, if required
