Primary Focus

The general manager of operations is responsible for the overall actions of Whole Leaf. The job focuses on meeting with other leaders including on-site managers, supervisors and team leads to create a plan for accomplishing these tasks, focusing on large-scale planning, supporting leaders with individual worker management and driving workplace efficiencies. The general manager may collect feedback from department supervisors and team leads to determine the appropriate deadlines for projects, help prioritize various aspects of the company's goals and address specific concerns that the team leads have in regards to the plans.

Job Context and Accountabilities

  • Acts in liaison with the Chief Operating Officer, on all items related to production including but not limited to labor planning and tracking and yield targets.
  • Responsible and accountable for managing labor on-site including full authority to hire, discipline and terminate employees as per our human resource policies and in alignment with operational requirements.
  • Acts in liaison with Shared Services to ensure effective shipping & receiving practices, sanitation procedures & practices and preventative maintenance standards & practices.
  • Responsible for ensuring all operational policies, practices and procedures are adhered to on the Whole Leaf site.
  • Responsible and accountable to work with the Star Food Safety team to ensure the site meets safe food practices for producing product in a high care environment.
  • Responsible & accountable for ensuring employees understand, acknowledge and adhere to the Star guidelines, practices and procedures.
  • KPI tracking and reporting to senior management.
  • Responsible and accountable for all on-site inventory including the ordering of materials and ensuring the accurate counting and reporting of inventory levels. 



  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in business, marketing, commerce, or related field. 
  • An engineering background is preferred by not required.
  • 3+ years of successful management of distribution channels, account development and customer support.


  • Strong knowledge of operations function processes and cross-functional exposure to other company business operations (logistics, inventory management, marketing, supply chain).
  • Demonstrated dynamic leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills.


  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience in using technology; including ERP and scheduling technology.

Working conditions

  • Hours may be irregular and in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.
  • Work outside ordinary office hours (including weekends and holidays) may be required.

 Physical requirements

  • Able to work in cold, hot & humid greenhouse environments
  • Walking and standing throughout the day
