About the Opportunity

Currently, Foothills School Division is searching for an experienced Director of Transportation immediately South of Calgary, AB.

In this key leadership role cultivating a model of respect, you will oversee the Transportation Services Department to ensure the effectiveness, safety and functionality of the student Transportation Service system. More specifically, you will:

  • Ensure that the Division's Transportation system operate bus routes in accordance with Alberta Education regulations, the Board’s Administrative Procedures and QualityStandards (AP 451)
  • Liaise with Alberta Education in matters related to grant claims and statistical purposes
  • Ensures that buses are properly maintained in accordance with established Provincial standards
  • Oversee all transportation personnel including drivers, mechanics, and support staff and assist with recruiting and evaluating transportation personnel
  • Oversees training processes and proper endorsement for all bus drivers
  • Establishes team goals, provides meaningful performance measures and progress, and motivate/mentor staff
  • Plan, develop, report and monitor the Transportation Services budget
  • Facilitate all required reporting for Alberta Education and Alberta Transportation
  • Liaise with members of the general public and respond to all transportation related inquiries
  • Facilitate the constructive resolution of conflict within the department and larger Foothill’s leadership team to foster positive relations.

To qualify, you must have at least 5 years of progressively responsible related experience within the public sector, preferably student transportation. A degree or diploma (or equivalent) in business administration or human resources is essential, as is a valid Class 2 driver’s license and Alberta “S” Endorsement Certification.

It is important that you are a demonstrated leader and communicator with high-level written and verbal skills, and that you are able to foster effective relationships in a positive team environment.
