ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Methanex is currently seeking an HR Manager to join the team in Medicine Hat on a full-time basis.

As a key member of the Site Management Team and in collaboration with the HR team, you will be accountable for the overall direction and leadership of the Medicine Hat human resources function. With a clear understanding of current and future business needs, you will develop, implement, and coordinate site HR strategy, support, and services in alignment with Medicine Hat's business strategy and global HR strategy. This role will see you building and maintaining solid working relationships and an HR business partnership across the site. In addition, as a member of the Global Human Resources Leader team, you will support the identification, scoping and implementation of functional HR initiatives. 

More specifically your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving a customer-centric and one-team culture in Medicine Hat by drawing on functional expertise and utilizing professional guidance.
  • Providing proactive and experiential HR advice to the Plant Manager regarding the development and deployment of fit-for-purpose people practices.
  • Aligning the human resource strategies and tactical plan with the Medicine Hat site strategy.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring the appropriate and consistent application of site human resource policies, procedures, practices and systems.
  • Managing organizational design, operational workforce planning and management processes to maintain an effective structure and staffing levels for Medicine Hat and business needs.
  • Implementing performance management and recognition systems and ensuring their application by managers and supervisors.
  • Ensuring robust career development and succession planning processes to maximize the talent pipeline.
  • Guaranteeing employee training and development systems to continually enhanced employees' skills and competencies for effective performance.
  • Assuring a high-quality recruitment framework at all levels within the organization.
  • Overseeing appropriate remuneration and benefit systems to attract, retain and motivate employees as well as providing guidance and recommendations to site management on compensation matters.
  • Providing proactive, professional guidance concerning employment-related legislation.
  • Monitoring best practices in the HR field and introducing these practices to the Medicine Hat site as appropriate.
  • Liaising with the Global HR Team to support the development and implementation of global strategic HR plans, global HR Systems and best practice global policies and procedures.
  • Leveraging functional expertise to develop organizational culture and employee engagement optimization strategies for safer, more reliable and sustainable operations.

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Management, or another relevant discipline along with at least 8 years of progressive, relevant experience in an HR Generalist role. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

You will also need a strong understanding of leading practices in Human Resources and employment-related legislation including Alberta Human Rights, Alberta Employment Standards, Privacy Legislations, and benefits programs. CPHR designation or current registration in a CPHR program or other professional HR designation will be considered a strong asset for this role.
