As the manager of the TELUS Security Incident Response Team (TSIRT) team in the TELUS Cyber Defence Centre, you'll lead efforts to anticipate, plan for, and respond to cyber security incidents. You'll coordinate with a wide range of internal and external partners in order to defend critical information assets and infrastructure. You are also a key operations pivot and drive situational awareness of emerging cyber incidents amongst TELUS' most senior leaders.

You will guide a team that responds to security incident reports, builds cyber security readiness across TELUS, and is a key focal point for responding to cyber security incidents and steering them to a positive outcome. The team involves a diverse mix of functional and technical specialists in cyber security.

Your activities will ensure that TELUS's systems and information assets are resilient and that the organization maintains an operational readiness to respond quickly, decisively, and appropriately to security incidents that arise.Succeeding means helping internal stakeholders and TELUS customers anticipate serious cyber threats and avoid grievous losses from data breaches, service disruptions, and system compromises. It also means maintaining the confidence of TELUS's senior leadership in our security posture and resilience.

As an Effective Leader, you will:
    •Drive a high engagement, high performance culture and support team members to achieve individual and team goals •Actively and efficiently manage the team's human and financial resources •Proactively communicate on a tactical, day-to-day operational issues as well as at a strategic, program-wide security issues •Represent TELUS and TELUS Security on incident bridges, working groups, and in other operational and security fora •Work with the team to develop, communicate and execute strategic roadmaps to support the ongoing growth and maturity of the security posture within TELUS

As an Operations Expert, you will:
    •Effectively organize and guide the team's activities during periods of heightened operational tempo, such as cyber incidents, simulations and exercises, with a constant focus on improving readiness and making continuous improvements between incidents •Cultivate effective working relationships with diverse service owners and security stakeholders across TELUS, assembling and coordinating the activities of cross-functional focused on individual incidents •Reinforce TELUS values in ensuring positive security outcomes for external customers and internal stakeholders

As a Security Expert, you will:
    •Provide quality assurance and exercise a coaching function for technical security analyses and operational response plans that are produced by your team or other partners, you know how to ask the right questions to ensure the most strategically important implications of a security incident have been factored into a response plan •Interface with DevOps and other security primes on technical security requirements for threat hunting and incident response, executing on a shared roadmap for future capability delivery and execution


You're the missing piece of the puzzle
    •Experience in a leadership role at a team level, even if not in a formal management role, as demonstrated by the achievement of team-based objectives and performance measures •Experience in coaching team members and peers, as demonstrated by the achievement of individual performance objectives, career progression or skills development of colleagues, or participation in formal talent development, mentorship, or job shadowing programs •Experience relevant to event or incident management, such as ITIL incident management processes •A solid general understanding of fundamental concepts relating to IT security, such as security threat and risk analysis and common cyber security attack/defence techniques, such as phishing and denial of service attacks •A solid general understanding of enterprise IT service management models and IT Security practices, such as ITIL policies, processes, and procedures •Strong oral and written communications skills, with an ability to tailor messaging on complex technical issues to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences •A proven track record of working collaboratively with diverse teams across TELUS Security and TELUS •Experience solving operations challenges in a variable-tempo, interrupt-driven operational environment •Experience in supporting TELUS strategy, performance, human resources, and financial management processes •Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Management, or other disciplines related to management and leadership of a technical team

    •Experience with analytics, such as with Hadoop or other similar big data platforms •Experience with diverse IT environments, such as Active Directory, Linux/Unix, Kubernetes, AWS, Docker, or other cloud, container, or OSS/management plane environments •Experience working with industry cyber security working groups and associations, or law enforcement, national security, or cyber security agencies at the federal, provincial, or municipal level •Professional security certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), SANS
