A day in the life:
  • Develop and apply analytical and numerical groundwater models as required to support environmental impact assessments, regional groundwater resource evaluations, oil sands operations, mine dewatering planning and optimization, and municipal water supply projects;
  • Assist with the analysis and interpretation of model results and hydrogeological data and preparation of reports;
  • Prepare technical documentation to support analytical and numerical studies;
  • Be a self-starter and be able to take ownership of project tasks using their technical knowledge;
  • Work closely with other members of the WSP modelling team in Calgary as well as the wider WSP groundwater technical community across Canada and around the world in a collaborative environment.

What you'll bring to WSP ...
  • Undergraduate Degree in Civil, Geological or Environmental Engineering with a specialization in groundwater modelling through course work or undergraduate projects/thesis is preferred; candidates with degrees in Geology or Environmental Sciences who have strong analytical and quantitative skills and candidates with other degrees having a strong quantitative component such as physics or applied mathematics will also be considered; a post-graduate degree (M.Sc., Ph.D.) in Engineering, Hydrogeology or related discipline is preferred;
  • Strong all-around academic knowledge of physical hydrogeology. Knowledge of geology would be an asset;
  • Experience with industry-standard numerical modelling packages (e.g., MODFLOW, Groundwater Vistas, FEFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, MIKE SHE) would be an asset;
  • Experience with Pest and Null Space Monte Carlo analyses would be an asset;
  • Exposure to machine learning;
  • Strong computer skills including working with GIS-type software, digital databases, visualization software (Leapfrog), etc.;
  • Programming experience would be an asset;
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills;
  • Some practical experience with physical hydrogeology including borehole logging, monitoring well installation, hydraulic conductivity testing and pumping tests would be an asset;
  • Excellent work ethic with strong organization and time management skills;
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment;
  • Eligible for professional registration in Alberta;
  • Available for business travel, when required.
