Our office in Calgary is looking for a Junior Groundwater Modeller to work within our Environmental - Contaminated Site and Remediation team to join our team of highly skilled quantitative hydrogeologist and engineers.

The position provides the opportunity to support and grow the existing Contaminated Site and Remediation, Environmental Permitting, and Hydrogeological Modelling Teams within Western Canada. You will work with a team of hydrogeologists, engineers, and environmental scientists to support developing and carrying out hydrogeologic investigations, characterization, groundwater resource, and remedial design elevation projects in Western Canada, throughout North America, and Globally.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Developing and applying groundwater flow and fate/transport models to solve environmental and water resources challenges for projects located throughout North America and Globally
  • Problem Solving involving literature review and research to explain unique/non-standard environmental challenges
  • Data compilation, reduction, and preliminary interpretation, including water quality results, hydraulic response testing data analysis, water balance model, contaminant migration and impact assessment analysis
  • Hydrogeologic Characterization, Interpretation and Evaluation
  • Evaluation of geochemical conditions with respect to contaminant fate in the subsurface
  • Project task coordination
  • Prepare modelling documentation, technical memoranda, and design reports
  • May also involve some field work on a limited basis

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
  • B.Sc./M.Sc. in engineering in Civil, Environmental Systems, or Water Resources is preferred
  • B.Sc./M.Sc. in Geology or Earth Sciences is also considered
  • Eligible for P.Geo or P.Eng in Alberta
  • At least 1 year of profession experience is considered an asset
  • Well developed analytical skills are a requirement of this position
  • Previous exposure to hydrogeology or groundwater modeling is a must
  • Previous experience with Surfer, Grapher, MODFLOW (and its family of codes such as MODPATH and MT3DMS), HYDRUS, HydroGeoSphere and FEFLOW is beneficial
  • Experience with coding (e.g. Python, R, Visual Basic) is desirable
  • GIS experience is an asset
  • Experience with geo-statistical interpretation and geological modeling using LEAPFROG or equivalent software is an asset
