Methanex is currently seeking a Lead Instrument and Electrical (I/E) Engineer to join the team in Medicine Hat on a permanent full-time basis.

In this role, you will have overall responsibility for the strategic oversight and tactical delivery of the instrument and electrical engineering, design, and project management functions within the technical department. 

In order to qualify for this role you will have an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering along with a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and 7 years of relevant experience, 5 of which are within a petrochemical facility or a similar industrial environment.

Applicants are also invited to apply if they have a post-secondary diploma in Instrument Technology along with a Registered Engineering Technologist (RET) designation through the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta and 12 years of relevant experience,  8 of which are within a petrochemical facility or a similar industrial environment. 

You will also possess:

  • Experience with engineering practice and the management of change workflow.
  • Knowledge of full-cycle project management, including cost management. 
  • Experience in project management of medium-sized projects.
  • Experience in selecting and managing contract engineering firms. 
  • Technical and working knowledge of control systems and philosophies.
  • Specific technical knowledge of the Delta V system.
  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation and electrical equipment, and equipment specification, sizing and selection.
  • Working knowledge of DCS archive systems is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software. 

With strong written and verbal communication and listening skills, you will possess the ability to quickly identify and directly address issues, as well as independently respond to highly complex matters in a professional manner, with guidance required in only the most unique and complicated situations. 

A strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills are essential, as is the ability to respond to shifting priorities and deal effectively with ambiguity.
