Job Description:

Department Overview

The GI Reinsurance department is responsible for ensuring that insurance risk is appropriately mitigated by designing and managing reinsurance structures aligned with TD Insurance's risk appetite. The team also evaluates actuarial reserves and the ultimate cost of catastrophic loss events and provides periodic financial reporting of reinsurance-related results.

Key Responsibilities

Reinsurance Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Lead the team responsible for monthly reinsurance financial reporting, including analysis and evaluation of amounts recoverable from reinsurers, and work closely with Finance on issues that arise
  • Participate as a core contributor in the annual reinsurance treaty renewal process, review reinsurance strategy, and coordinate communications with reinsurance brokers and TD Global Counterparty Credit
  • Support loss forecasting as part of budget planning and periodic follow ups by coordinating timing of inputs and outputs with partners such as Corporate Actuarial and Finance
  • Contribute to enhancement of the performance of the reinsurance group (i.e. climate change analysis, risk assessment by natural perils, ifrs17 development)

Governance, Controls & Risk Management
  • Ensure maintenance of controls, policies, and procedures while rigorously applying governance principles, including SOX and EUC controls, audit requirements, and model validation processes

Internal Partnerships & Collaboration
  • Build strong partnerships with the Claims department to deepen understanding of the claim lifecycle and to establish effective monitoring processes.
  • Work independently with internal control partners, including Audit, E&Y, and Risk Management

Leadership & Knowledge Sharing
  • Contribute to the development of actuarial and analytical capabilities through mentorship and coaching.
  • Inform internal partners about reinsurance strategies, share knowledge and best practices, and support cross functional collaboration
  • Develop and coordinate responses to ad-hoc requests

Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in actuarial science or another quantitative field
  • At least 6 CAS exams completed
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • Strong computer and programming skills, including Excel, VBA, R, and SQL
  • Strong understanding of insurance business strategy, finance, and the reinsurance industry
  • Solid knowledge of financial and accounting concepts
  • Client oriented with excellent communication skills
  • Bilingual
  • Recognized for high quality work, strong attention to detail, and rigor
  • Adapts quickly to new work environments
  • Strong planning abilities; analytical, collaborative, and innovative mindset
