The Opportunity:We currently have opportunities for Materials Technicians at both the student and experienced level.
Students filling the role of Materials Laboratory and Field Technicians in Calgary will be provided an excellent opportunity to develop their career and experience in the engineering and construction field. Their responsibilities will include conducting various tests on asphalt pavements, concrete, aggregates and various soils in both laboratory and field environment. Student positions will require working on out of town projects.
All applicants must have a valid Alberta driver's license and be required to submit an up-to-date driver's abstract upon being hired.

- Prepare of inspection reports and data entry.
- Follow WSP E&I's Project Review, Ethics and Safety Policies.
- Provide Construction Monitoring of roads, pads, buildings etc.

What you'll bring to WSP ... - Good written and verbal English communication skills
- Some form of Civil Engineering education, either from a university or technical school
- Reliable and punctual
- Willing to do a variety of tasks and able to prioritize
- CSA Safety boots required
- Ability to work in the laboratory and office settings
- Light to moderate lifting may be required
A day in the life, Experienced Roles: - Provide quality control and quality assurance inspection and testing on a variety of laboratory and field projects including but not limited to aggregate production, earthworks, concrete, asphalt and field density programs
- Provide a high level of client service
- Ensure clear communication to client representatives and the WSP E&I team
- Train and mentor junior staff
- Prepare field and lab reports
- Other responsibilities may include assisting geotechnical and environmental staff with field investigations, geotechnical instrumentation, and sampling
- Given the nature of our work, out of town work may be required, from time to time.
What you'll bring to WSP ... - Completion of a Civil or Construction Engineering Technology program
- Ideally 1- 5 years of related materials testing experience including soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt.
- Knowledge of CSA, ASTM, and Provincial test methods an asset
- Detail oriented, organized, team player and self-motivated
- Well organized approach to work, with the ability to manage and prioritize several tasks at one time and ensure commitment to service and technical excellence
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
All Candidates ... - Must be able to lift independently up to a maximum of 25 kg
- Flexible to work overtime as required
- Commitment to wear all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract
