ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Methanex is currently seeking an OHS Training Coordinator to join the team in Medicine Hat on a full-time basis.

In this role, you will design, develop, implement, present, coordinate and maintain occupational health and safety (OHS) training and orientation.

In addition, you will be responsible for administering the recordkeeping system to track employee training participation and progress, assists in other administrative and budgeting tasks associated with training programs, coordinates and tracks participation in outside training activities and proactively reviews field performance against training provided.

This position will also be responsible for coordinating personnel and contractor training requirements for a site turnaround scheduled for 2020.

Please note, this is a temporary position with an anticipated commencement approximately November 2018 and an anticipated duration of approximately twenty-four months.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Staying up to date with company and regulatory requirements to determine the site OHS training needs.
  • Conducting annual review of the Medicine Hat Responsible Care training program and training matrix to ensure continued compliance with company and legislative requirements.
  • Maintaining the Responsible Care training matrix to communicate and plan site training requirements.
  • Drafting and submitting the annual Responsible Care training program budget for inclusion in the overall Responsible Care department budget.
  • Initiating the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) process for training projects that require additional financial approval.
  • Working with managers, supervisors, and stakeholders to plan and schedule training to meet the OHS training requirements.
  • Developing and delivering Computer Based Training (CBT) or training packages as required.
  • Identifying and assessing vendor suitability for the provision of externally facilitated training to meet program needs.
  • Reviewing and defining acceptability of contractor training tickets.
  • Coordinating, maintaining and executing site orientations for different groups of workers, including employees, contractors, methanol haulers, janitors, etc.
  • Finding innovative ways to keep site orientations fresh and engaging on an ongoing basis.
  • Conducting regular field visits and attending site and contractor toolbox sessions to determine if OHS training remains effectively implemented in the workplace.

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety combined with specialization/courses in Alberta OH&S regulations. 

You will also possess:

  • Safety professional designation (e.g. CRSP, CSP, ASP) (Asset).
  • Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills ensuring clear and concise information is relayed to all levels of the organization.
  • Superior written and verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Superior ability to focus and work quickly in demanding circumstances.
  • Superior problem solving and critical thinking skills, evidenced by an ability to troubleshoot complex operating systems.
  • Sound judgment and an ability to make valuable decisions and recommendations based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom and experience
