Position Overview: The Project Manager - Facilities (Capital Projects Team) is responsible for the day to day management of capital improvement projects as they relate to facilities infrastructure. Projects vary in scope and size and will require different degrees of involvement. The Project Manager will be acting as the owner's representative and will be required to manage multiple stakeholders including internal partners, consultants, and contractors.

  • Reviews and prepares tender documents & procurement packages
  • Evaluates consultant & contractor quotations for validity and provides recommendations for revision or approval
  • Works with Internal Stakeholders to develop and confirm project scope
  • Reviews construction documents for completeness and adherence to scope requirements
  • Prepares and reviews consultant and construction contracts
  • Prepares and distributes meeting minutes
  • Manages shop drawing process and reviews shop drawings as required for compliance with Finning Standards
  • Track and provide technical input/recommendations in response to RFI's
  • Review Change Notices, Site Instructions, and Field reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Validate change requests and negotiate with consultants and contractors to achieve best value
  • Assist the Project Manager with draft schedules
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and contractors to coordinate work access and schedule compliance
  • Review Operations & Maintenance Manuals for completeness and coordinate user training
  • Verify monthly consultant and contractor invoicing for compliance with contract terms
  • File management for projects as assigned
  • Assist in weekly Capital Program Cost Tracking and reporting
  • Support the Manager - Facilities & Capital Projects as required with various program and strategic initiatives
  • Administer & be responsible for facilities department file management initiatives
  • In this position the successful candidate will be expected to manage multiple projects and multiple tasks and ensure that the administration of each project is current and complete
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring fair value is provided by all consultants and contractors.
  • With the other members of the Capital Projects Team ensure that the Capital Projects Plan is successfully executed each year
  • Represent the Capital Projects team with the highest degree of professionalism and expertise fitting of an elite project management team
  • Work with other team members to continually improve processes and procedures and strive to provide the best value to Finning Canada
  • Financial Authority: N/A all financial recommendations will be provided to the supervising Project Manager or the Manager - Facilities & Capital Projects for approval


Specific Skills & Knowledge:
  • The ability to read and understand both consultant & construction contracts
  • The ability to read and understand detailed commercial/industrial construction documents
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management skills while being responsible for multiple tasks
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience with SMARTSHEET is considered an asset
  • Experience with BluBeam & AutoCad is considered an asset
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of project management as it pertains to construction projects. This includes an understanding of key stakeholders and the project life cycle
  • Possesses knowledge of construction procurement and procurement law in Canada
  • Is familiar with consultant & construction contracts, CCDC.
  • Technical training in Commercial & industrial construction processes, procedures, materials, and equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the process of preparing a construction estimate
  • Is familiar with standard project administration documents
  • A knowledge of building regulations and permitting procedures is an asset


Education & Experience:
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a Project Management in the Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (ICI) sector or equivalent relevant construction experience
  • Possess a Construction, Engineering, or Architectural degree or diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution or equivalent relevant construction experience
  • Proven Experience administering construction projects is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in liasing with municipal and provincial authorities and other regulatory bodies is an asset
