Position Overview: The Director of the Property and Facilities team will play a critical part in a multiyear plan for transforming the Finning Canada facilities footprint. You will be responsible for the management of Finning (Canada's) existing and continuing investments and leasehold interests in real property, buildings and other facilities, and the related care and maintenance of those assets and interests. Control and management of all proposed capital expenditures and capital projects including forecasting budgeting and property development. Additionally the successful candidate will have the ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of leadership, including facility, general management and executive management, along with a diverse group of external stakeholders.

Job Description:
Major Job Functions:
  • Develop , implement and manage facility related strategies that align with business requirements;
  • Overall responsibility for financial performance of the department, including operating budgets, forecasts and day to day expense management
  • Provide overall facilities management and leadership to support all strategic initiatives
  • Maintenance management of facility's, including standardized best practice's to maximize value minimize costs to the enterprise
  • Provide clear and effective leadership and human resources management to all facility employees;
  • Lead and champion a healthy and safe work environment ensuring that all safety standards, policies, procedures and compliance requirements are communicated, implemented and followed through.
  • This role will also provide the specific insight, knowledge and guidance as a team member of the Long term network strategy
  • Strategically align facility team with corporately set strategies and ensure a long term approach/view of all related decisions (e.g. in setting contracts, in facility maintenance decisions, at contract renewal and in establishing controls)
  • Negotiate fair market rates, and favorable contract terms and conditions, for all stakeholders, in all contracts including lease terms
  • Efficient maintenance costs supported by executed cost reducing initiatives (e.g. energy) and well negotiated pricing and contracts
  • Manage Finning (Canada's) environmental impact through various measures (e.g. rotating branch audits, oil spill management, and utility utilization)
  • Maximize Finning (Canada's) facility capitalization/utilization through effective alignment of planned business operations with the necessary/required property and facilities
  • Responsible for the effective human resources management of the Facilities team and fostering an effective work environment which successfully contributes to meeting Facilities' strategic goals and objectives


Specific Skills & Knowledge:
  • Proven capability to manage large-scale construction projects as well as a portfolio of smaller construction and maintenance projects as well as associated stakeholders
  • Knowledgeable of contract management, specifically lease contracts
  • Knowledgeable of the construction industry and related processes and terminology
  • Ability to interpret and analyze proposals and prepare and present the business and financial implications with sounds conclusions and recommendations
  • Ability to work in a coordinated manner with other key stakeholders
  • Proven ability to blend business development, customer requirements and innovation with analytical expertise
  • Ability to work with and contribute effectively with senior management in formulating strategies, plans and ideas
  • Demonstrated initiative to seek improvement, make changes and incorporate ideas into practical business plans
  • Proven people development, coaching and human relation skills
  • Knowledgeable in formulating strategies, developing action plans and proposals, and implementing solutions
  • Understands impact (cause and effect) of decisions on other parts of the organization
  • Understands the organization and the industry
  • T horough knowledge of Finning's policies and procedures, specifically, safety


Education & Experience:
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline
  • 10 years plus of related experience
  • 5 years plus of leadership or management experience
  • A recent driver's abstract will be required
  • Successful external candidates shall be subject to a criminal record check
