ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Methanex is currently seeking a Safety Supervisor, Responsible Care-Turnaround to join the team in Medicine Hat on a 24-month term.

In this role, you will provide leadership in developing and directing Responsible Care programs for Methanex Medicine Hat during the planning and execution of the 2020 maintenance outage (turnaround).

In addition, you will be responsible for leading, managing and the coordination of a multifunctional Responsible Care team that provides technical expertise to the turnaround projects, maintenance crews, contractors and employees.

Please note, this is a temporary position with an anticipated commencement approximately November 2018 and an anticipated duration of approximately twenty-four months through November 2020.

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a safety professional certification (e.g. NCSO, CRSP) combined with a minimum of 10 years related Responsible Care or Health & Safety experience in the industrial and/or construction field.

You will also possess:

  • A certificate or diploma from an accredited health and safety program is an asset (e.g. University of Alberta OH&S Certificate)
  • Industry experience, with strong focus on Responsible Care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Interpreting applicable safety codes, standards, guidelines, and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated willingness to lead actively in team activities, sharing experiences and ideas.
  • Superior business acumen including a demonstrated understanding of the fundamental dynamics of the market, how the business is positioned within the wider industry and how the business impacts financial results.
  • Strong commitment to ongoing learning, development and improvement for self and team members.
  • The ability to analyze and interpret data, accurately identify trends and issues, recognize similarities between current and past circumstances, and anticipate future consequences and trends.

With superior ability to build and maintain constructive and effective relationships, including strong collaboration skills and the self-awareness to understand the impacts of one’s own behavior on others, you will have a demonstrated ability to foster the engagement and development of direct reports, cultivate a culture in which team members want to excel, challenge and stretch team members in meaningful ways, and build and strong, agile team.
