About the Opportunity

Currently, High Prairie School Division No. 48 is searching for an experienced Secretary-Treasurer in High Prairie, Alberta.

The Secretary-Treasurer is the senior business and financial officer of the Board and its Corporate Secretary. Providing leadership and coordination of financial and business affairs, you will contribute to educational efficiency and progress, as well as provide advice to the Superintendent on relevant matters. Acting on behalf of the Board of Education, you will also support the goals and objectives of education. 

Additionally, the Secretary-Treasurer maintains responsibility for Transportation, Information Technology, Capital Projects, Operations and Maintenance Services, Records, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP). The Secretary-Treasurer is responsible directly to the Superintendent for reporting on progress and the achievement of outcomes associated to these areas. Specific roles and related responsibilities are herein provided.

As a key member of the Senior Administrative Leadership Team, the Secretary-Treasurer’s responsibilities will include but are not be limited to:

  • Recording and filing the minutes of meetings of the Board of Trustees
  • Supervising the records management information for the Division
  • Administering and supervising all financial affairs of the Division in accordance with standard accounting procedures, the School Act, all requirements and regulations of Albert Education, and legal/ethical requirements
  • Advising the Superintendent of Schools on financial affairs of the Division including the recommendation of procedures relevant to the role
  • Employing the necessary accounting and clerical staff to support the financial operation of the Division, student transportation, and operations service
  • Providing for an annual performance review of staff assigned to the financial operations for the Division, student transportation, operation services
  • Supervising the Transportation Department operations
  • Assuming leadership and management of risk management for the Division
  • Obtaining and providing legal opinion and counsel as necessary
  • Supervising, coordinating and evaluating all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety requirements (Emergency Response, training, Safety Meeting, etc);
  • Developing the divisions three-year capital plan
  • Administer and monitor computer and reporting needs for the financial operations of the Division
  • Assuming responsibility of the Provincial Approach to Student Information (PASI) transfer from schools to Alberta Education
  • Resuming responsibility for property management
  • Supporting the superintendent and Executive Council with system planning, reporting and accountability
  • The Superintendent shall annually evaluate and assess the performance of the Secretary-Treasurer relevant to evidence associated with Secretary-Treasurer’s work plan and provide a written report to communicate this assessment

In order to qualify for this role, you must possess a valid drivers licence and an acceptable Criminal Record Check which includes CPIC, Vulnerable Sectors and Local Indices search. 

Our ideal candidate will have the ability to work within a team and independently without supervision and a CMA, CPA, or a degree in Business Management combined with previous experience working with a school division would be considered an asset.
