The successful candidate will join the Optik TV™ Dev/Ops Team to provide leadership, technical expertise and architectures for TELUS' leading edge IPTV service. This position will ensure the development of new architectures for TELUS' Content delivery via TELUS Content Delivery Network (CDN), Origin Servers and Transcoding environment. The position is responsible for providing our customers throughout Canada with the highest Quality of Experience in Content delivery over any network. Ensuring the delivery of both file based and live/linear content for Optik TV, Optik on the Go and Business TV, along with critical data supporting infrastructure used in the support of TELUS services.

Here's how
    •Provide superior technical consultation to members of Optik TV™ Operations and other TELUS business units •Provide technical analysis and recommendations to engineering, enterprise network and/or vendors to ensure smooth delivery and implementation of enhancements and/or fixes to our Content Delivery infrastructure and associated services •Develop new architectures and designs to support the acquisition and delivery of content •Ensure technical designs of networks are architected to be flexible, scalable, maintainable, and open in TELUS' n-tier environment •Review all content collection and delivery solutions in an effort to manage the appropriate use of standardized components and to ensure that the networks are planned, designed and implemented as per BCP requirements and defined architectures •Work with Project Managers and Network Planners to ensure the successful delivery of projects •Develop and maintain documentation and information, e.g. architecture designs & network diagrams to support new architecture and designs


Qualifications:

Required Knowledge:
    •Advanced knowledge, understanding and experience of:
      •Linux (Red Hat Enterprise/CentOS) •Video encoding / transcoding •IPV4 & IPV6 including but not limited to TCP/IP, ICMP, UDP, Multicast, HTTPS, SNMP, DHCP, SSL protocols, Internet routing and firewalls •Knowledge in DNS Operations •Working Knowledge of IPTV & OTT protocols (adaptive and progressive formats) •CDN (Concepts and Network Architecture/performance monitoring principles) •Microsoft and Unix/BSD Operating Systems •Scripting with Bash/Perl/Python/Shell •Network Storage (NFS, CIFS, Gluster) •Network Virtualization-VMWare, KVM, Hyper-V •F5 Load Balancing •Experience with generating test plans and managing/performing the ensuing update and testing procedures •Hands-on familiarity with testing methodologies, and quality control •Strong Troubleshooting Methodology

Required Skills & Abilities:
    •With 5-7 years of relevant experience, requiring advanced technical and analytical skills, confident in making and owning technical decisions •Advanced ability to lead and collaborate with a variety of diverse groups and technical teams (internal and/or external) •Support specific customer issues through assessment, interpretation, resolution or recommendations •Strong verbal and written communication skills, confident with presenting material to peers and senior management •Ability to work in an environment with high levels of ambiguity •Ability to manage key deliverables as part of an extended project team •Excellent interpersonal skills, talented at developing and fostering positive relationships with other team members •Bachelors Computer Science or Electrical Engineering Degree, or Technology graduate and/or equivalent combination of experience and education

Great-to-Haves
    •Additional experience with any the following will be considered an asset:
      •familiar with Linux and Apache, Lighttpd webservers •familiar with Windows Server with IIS •Scripting with Bash/Perl/Python •IBM Blade Center configuration •SQL (Oracle, MySQL) •Development experience (Shell, Perl, PHP, etc.)
