Job Description

Senior Solutions Consultant
Location: Hybrid - British Columbia or Alberta
Opportunity at Microserve

Position Overview
The Senior Solutions Consultant is an experienced client-facing IT professional who leads the delivery of complex projects or major parts of larger engagements, with a practice focus on SharePoint and adjacent Microsoft technologies. They serve as a lead technical consultant and often act as a project lead, responsible for turning client requirements into a concrete solution plan and ensuring its successful execution. This role works closely with client stakeholders (such as IT managers or project sponsors) to gather detailed requirements and provide expert guidance, acting as a trusted technical advisor throughout the project. Senior Solutions Consultants design end-to-end solutions (often with input from Solutions Architects), determine the right technologies and methods, and guide a team of consultants to implement the plan. They also contribute to pre-sales efforts by helping to develop proposals and Statements of Work (SOWs), leveraging their experience to estimate effort and define deliverables. A Senior Solutions Consultant takes broad accountability for project success: they ensure the project meets its objectives and that the client is satisfied with both the process and the final outcome. This role demands a high level of autonomy, technical expertise, and decision-making, effectively bridging the gap between strategy and delivery by turning high-level ideas into working solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solution Discovery & SOW Development: Lead the technical discovery phase of projects to define solution scope and requirements, including current-state content, information architecture, permissions, governance, migration, and integration needs. Develop or co-author the Statement of Work (SOW), clearly detailing project deliverables, timeline, and effort estimates. Ensure the proposed solution approach is feasible and aligned with client needs, negotiating scope or phasing if necessary to match budget or schedule constraints. Establish a solid foundation for execution by securing client agreement on the defined scope and objectives.

  • Project Leadership & Technical Execution: Own the technical delivery of the project, ensuring it stays within the agreed scope, schedule, and budget. Serve as the technical lead for the project team: develop the delivery plan, assign tasks to consultants, and oversee all technical work to meet milestones. Lead and contribute hands-on to the design, configuration, implementation, and migration of SharePoint and related Microsoft solutions. Monitor progress closely, providing guidance or hands-on support to resolve issues and remove roadblocks. Review key deliverables for quality and alignment with requirements. Manage project scope throughout execution by directing any out-of-scope requests through formal change control, preventing scope creep. Coordinate with the Project Manager on overall status and risk management, while acting as the point person for all technical decisions. Drive the project to a successful conclusion, delivered on time, on budget, and meeting all defined requirements.

  • Client Engagement & Communication: Act as the client’s primary technical point of contact during project delivery. Maintain open communication with client stakeholders through regular updates and meetings. Explain technical progress and issues in clear, non-technical terms to ensure the client understands project status and value. Address client questions or concerns about the solution promptly and professionally, building trust through transparency and expertise. Proactively manage client expectations by clarifying scope boundaries and handling change requests through the agreed process. Ensure the client feels supported and confident throughout the engagement, resulting in high client satisfaction with both the process and the final results.

  • Mentoring & Team Collaboration: Mentor and guide other consultants on the project team to enhance their skills and performance. Offer support in solving complex technical problems and review consultants’ deliverables to ensure they meet quality standards. Share knowledge and best practices openly, documenting solutions and lessons learned for the benefit of the team. Foster a collaborative environment by keeping all team members (consultants, architects, Project Managers, and client personnel) aligned and informed about project changes or decisions. Lead by example in technical work and professionalism, ensuring the team is stronger and more knowledgeable by the end of the project.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Relevant Microsoft technical certifications are strongly preferred and should be maintained to demonstrate expertise. Excellent technical writing skills are required for producing clear project documentation (SOWs, design documents, user guides).

  • Experience: Approximately 8+ years in IT infrastructure or systems engineering roles with significant project delivery responsibility. Strong experience designing and implementing SharePoint solutions and delivering SharePoint migrations is required. Proven track record of leading technical implementation projects through to successful completion, including hands-on involvement in discovery, project scoping, project management practices, and SOW development. Prior consulting or professional services experience is highly desirable, indicating ability to work in client-facing, project-based engagements.

  • Technical Skills: Deep SharePoint expertise, including architecture, configuration, information architecture, permissions, governance, lifecycle management, and migration. Experience aligning SharePoint design and governance with Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 Copilot requirements is strongly preferred. Complementary experience with Microsoft 365, Teams, OneDrive, Entra ID, Power Platform, or related Microsoft technologies is an asset. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex technical issues. Committed to delivering solutions following best practices for security, reliability, and performance.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly; strong leadership by influence and effective teamwork; a client-focused, professional approach; highly organised with effective problem-solving abilities; committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Compensation: In accordance with the BC Pay Transparency Act the range for this role for BC residents is $110,000.00-$130,000.00 annually. Please note the exact salary is determined based on a combination of your relevant experience, skill, competencies, and internal pay equity.
