The Opportunity

As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will take on a visible technical and leadership role within WSP's Water Management, Hydrogeology and Geophysics team, supporting some of the most complex environmental and engineering challenges in Alberta and across Western Canada. Based in Calgary, you'll act as a trusted advisor to clients while helping shape the strategic direction and continued growth of our Earth & Environment services in the Prairies and North.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of technical excellence, people leadership, and business development. You'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams of hydrogeologists, engineers, modellers, and geochemists, contributing your expertise to projects that span energy, mining, infrastructure, and environmental assessment. Through your leadership, you'll help strengthen regional capability, mentor emerging professionals, and elevate WSP's profile as a leading provider of hydrogeological consulting services.

If you're motivated by solving complex groundwater challenges, building strong client partnerships, and leaving a lasting impact on communities and the environment, this role provides the platform, autonomy, and support to do just that - backed by WSP's global network, technical depth, and commitment to sustainable outcomes.

Your Impact
  • Lead physical hydrogeology components of local, regional, and international projects, ensuring delivery meets WSP and client standards for safety, quality, schedule, and budget
  • Provide health and safety leadership across field and office activities
  • Mentor and guide hydrogeology professionals, strengthening regional technical capability

  • Build strong client relationships and actively contribute to business development and workload planning
  • Establish and maintain connections with internal business units to enhance integrated service delivery
  • Engage regularly with clients, regional groundwater professionals, and subject-matter experts across WSP

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering, with a strong foundation in physical hydrogeology
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in hydrogeology; experience in oil sands, oil & gas, or mining in Western Canada is a strong asset
  • Registered Professional Geoscientist or Engineer in Alberta (or eligible for registration)
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing technical teams and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success in developing client relationships and contributing to business growth
  • Experience delivering hydrogeological programs including groundwater monitoring, regulatory applications, and environmental impact assessments
  • Strong background in field investigations, well testing, hydraulic testing, and project planning across full project life cycles
  • Experience with industry-standard well test analysis software (e.g., AQTESOLV, AquiferTest, Saphir) considered an asset
