Position Overview: Reporting into the Procurement and Supplier Management Director, the Sourcing Specialist will play a key role in managing procurement and sourcing activities related to a specific commodity portfolio.

The position will be accountable for ensuring financial and process deliverables goals are met or exceeded when selecting suppliers. This position will also liaise with the Contract Specialists to recommend contracting opportunities, support implementation strategies and change management.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions:
  • Work with stakeholders to gather, consolidating requirements and scope of work that will be included in the competitive bids
  • Prepare; Request For Proposal (RFR), Request For Information (RFI) and Request For Quotations (RFQ). This information is entered into a bid template that are populated and customized with project specific requirements. Templates are word and excel based
  • Develop the scoring matrix, and the process for ratification
  • Project Manage the Evaluation Committee (internal Stakeholders) in the evaluation of the proposal. The output is an award recommendation for approval from leadership based on dollar value of the project
  • Manage and coordinate pricing agreement negotiations, and present the final results as recommendations to leadership based on project money value for final approval
  • When a new supplier, product or process is selected out the competitive bid process, the Supplier Specialist will send out the communications, set up meetings and training with the operational group that is affected
  • Analyze and understand the organization's spend related to the commodity areas assigned
  • Review several reports and spend dashboards obtained from suppliers and Finning operations to leverage the buying power to optimize costs, reduce lead times and guarantee supply
  • Make recommendations to various levels of management up to and including the Executive team on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and project money value
  • Confirm requirements for products/services with internal stakeholders
  • Understand baseline spend, obtain a proposal from the supplier, and negotiate pricing for goods and/or services with the suppliers and then negotiate best value for Finning
  • Qualify suppliers, and provide recommendations back to internal stakeholders
  • Take the information that was gathered from the internal stakeholders to help select suppliers
  • Communicate and promote procurement processes through various methods, including training internal customers on new and revised processes
  • Evaluate and analyze spend information, supplier quotes, proposals received from competitive bids, external conditions and from this information provide direction to internal customers
  • Make decisions considering total cost of ownership (TCO) which is a balance of cost, quality and customer service. When a bid come through it is evaluated on a score card which rates each criteria of interest. Weightings are agreed upon by the Stakeholders and recommendations are presented to leadership for approval prior to execution of an agreement
  • Award recommendations for solutions that are in line with the strategy of the origination
  • Develop and initiating new processes with the suppliers to align better with internal stakeholders requirements
  • Continuously look for process improvement initiatives in collaboration with other teams and/or departments


Specific Skills & Knowledge:
  • Overall knowledge, understanding, and practical experience of procurement and sourcing strategies, processes, and best practices
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, intermediate level in Excel and in Enterprise resource systems (ERP), preferably M3
  • Strong decision making and judgment skills and ability to independently provide recommendations based on information gathered
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proven project management capabilities
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently, and be flexible to changing priorities
  • A demonstrated ability to influence others without authority
  • Ability to take initiative and be creative and innovative in achieving results
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly and concisely present information to negotiate and influence others and professionally interact with clients, peers and Suppliers
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Written and verbal Spanish language communication skills would be considered an asset


Education & Experience:
  • Five to seven years of relevant sourcing, category management, and/or contract development experience
  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in supply chain, procurement and or Supply Chain Management Professional designation is an asset
  • Sound knowledge of procurement and procurement processes
  • Clear understanding of environmental considerations, social responsibility and risk analysis
  • Spanish language would be considered an asset
