The South Island Area Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all Cascadia Liquor locations in Greater Victoria. Reporting into the Operations Manager, the South Island Area Manager will work closely with store General Managers, the Merchandiser and Educational Trainer to drive operational excellence, provide industry leading customer service generate revenue, implement strategic initiatives, and provide strong people management. The South Island Area Manager will ensure all policies and procedures are being followed, drive and coach for an elevated guest and team experience, make recommendations on new procedures to drive efficiency, and ensure operational consistencies between all Cascadia Liquor locations.


This position is hands on working closely with the management team to champion the great working environment & culture that has been created by Cascadia Liquor and The Truffles Group. The South Island Area Manager will provide a culture of knowledge, engagement, and trust for our team and guests.  This is an excellent opportunity to progress your career, lead a strong and dynamic team and join a management group with strong vision. 




  • Oversee the daily operations for all South Island locations and develop and maintain operational efficiencies
  • Act as a backup for GMs to cover vacation and sick time and working on the floor when necessary
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager and Director of Operations & People (TTG) implement strategic initiatives, drive revenue, manage expenses and ensure an elevated guest and team experience.
  • Responsible for all people management functions for Cascadia locations in the South Island area and act as support to the GMs as required, including but not limited to:
    • Conduct 90 day and annual performance reviews for all direct reports
    • Ensure all direct reports conduct 90 day and annual reviews for their team
    • Work with GMs to ensure proper recruiting, and onboarding processes in line with all relevant legislations and company policies
    • Be the first point of contact for performance related concerns
    • In conjunction with GMs, Operations Manager and HR, manage employee leaves
    • Ensure GMs hold regular staff meetings and attend these meetings
  • Work with the Operations Manager to coach, train & develop management roles within Cascadia for succession planning
  • Weekly one-on-one visits and meetings with all South Island GMs
  • Participate in “all GM” meetings that take place once per month
  • Work with the GMs and property management companies to ensure the overall maintenance of the stores
  • Work with GMs to ensure cultural & staff initiatives are developed and maintained
  • Support and work with the Operations Manager to ensure all company guidelines are being met
  • Provide support and coaching to the GMs with any operational concerns that require a higher-level attention
  • Review monthly financials with GMs and Operations Manager and make recommendations for ways to increase sales, maximize margins, and reduce expenses


Required Education, Skills and Qualifications


  • 3-5 years’ experience in retail or hospitality management, with over 3 years in a senior management position.  Experience in the liquor retail industry is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in people management, driving operational efficiencies and providing an elevated guest experience through service, brand, and store appearance
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand business and financial metrics and make recommendations
  • Strong ability to analyze data and understand trends to formulate decision making
  • Ability to lead a large team with confidence, compassion & support
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage and motivate people
  • WSET 3 or equivalent, Certified Cicerone and Spirits Certification an asset
  • Serving it Right certification required
  • Strong skills in MS Office, retail POS systems
  • Completion of a successful background check

Hours of Work


Working hours will generally occur from Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The hours of work may vary and may be irregular and will be those hours required to meet the requirements of your job.
