Position Overview: Technical Leads play an integral role in driving continuous improvements at OEM, with customers, end users and through Caterpillar. By analyzing and determining root cause of failures, significant changes can be made to internal process, component design and use.

Utilizing background knowledge and experience, coupled with insights and training, the Technical Leads become subject matter experts, relied upon to provide support to the overall pursuit of quality and reliability.

Job Description:
  • Through the Failure Analysis process, determine root cause of component failure
  • Prepare technical reports supporting root cause determination
  • Provide feedback to Caterpillar that initiate product improvement efforts
  • Observing and documenting component condition upon disassembly
  • Researching component history
  • Analyzing individual piece parts and relating this information to the function and operation of the components
  • Drive reliability initiatives through the review and analysis of component & piece part failure data
  • Assist in the development of technical documentation that supports the OEM remanufacturing processes
  • Assess product improvement recommendations and initiate required internal change
  • Lead or participate in business process improvement projects
  • Participate in 6 Sigma continuous improvement projects
  • Develop subject matter expertise in an area relevant to the remanufacturing process to support peers and colleagues
  • Coordinate with Caterpillar and Dealer, the OEM portion of product tests

  • Preferred candidates will have significant experience and/or an Engineering degree in related discipline (mechanical, metallurgical)
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologists or Heavy-Duty Mechanics with equivalent experience will be considered
  • Preferred candidates will have experience related to QA, Failure Analysis, Reliability or Heavy-Duty Equipment repair or production
  • Strong root cause analysis skills
  • The ability to effectively communicate technical findings in writing or verbally
  • Ability to clearly communicate work instructions to production personnel in order to document and preserve evidence of failure
  • Able to work within a team environment
  • The ability to work safely, lead by example, and to contribute to overall company safety
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office environment
  • Familiar with a mid-scale ERP environment
  • Familiar with Metallurgy principles would be an asset
  • Familiar with ISO Quality Assurance Programs
  • Outstanding technical knowledge of Caterpillar Products
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers

  • This posting is for a static weekend shift scheduled Fri, Sat, Sun - 12 hours per day
  • Occasional coverage on of the other shifts may be required during periods of vacations or absenteeism
  • This position will entail a combination of time spent in the office and on the shop floor
