Position Overview:Reporting to the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering, the Tool Design Coordinator I is accountable for supporting Tooling and Capital projects in support of OEM's production relating to safety, quality, and efficiency. A primary function is to provide CAD services to support same projects.

Job Description:
  • Prepare CAD drawings for new and existing tool designs. Consult with tool requester/owner to understand requirements, observe/photograph/measure tool applications.
  • Prepare CAD drawings for plant / equipment layouts. Consult with appropriate staff to understand requirements, observe/photograph/measure physical plant areas.
  • Coordinate engineering contractors for review of tool designs
  • Coordinate vendors for fabrication of tools
  • Coordinate and execute annual tool inspections
  • Update databases for tool inventory, drawings, fabrication requests, tool hazard assessments, and tool operating manuals
  • Assign and engrave tool serial tags and arrange installation
  • Prepare tool operating manuals and miscellaneous standard operating procedures
  • Audit tooling used in plant

  • Mechanical Engineering or a technically equivalent degree/diploma
  • Minimum of 1 year work experience in a similar capacity
  • Fluent in SolidWorks CAD software
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at one time
  • Exceptional analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Technical research / sourcing skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Experience in AutoCAD LT CAD software would be an asset
  • Knowledge of GD&T would be an asset
  • Experience with design and development of lifting and assembly tooling would be an asset
  • Formal training or experience with Lean Manufacturing would be an asset
  • Experience with plant / process layout would be an asset
  • Exposure to manufacturing plant, machine shop and warehouse environments would be an asset
  • Experience with Heavy Duty machinery / CAT equipment would be an asset
