Position summary

 

JVC Group is currently looking for an experienced Transport Truck Driver to join our team. This position is a full-time, long-term role with a stable and consistent schedule in the local Edmonton/Sherwood Park area. The ideal candidate must be able perform safe operation of specialized equipment with proper understanding of dealing with dangerous goods and all necessary paperwork involved. They must demonstrate a positive attitude with fellow workers and clients and ensure all equipment is kept clean, properly maintained, and ready for work.

 

Job duties

 

  • Operate and drive various types of trucks, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport heavy equipment and materials short and long distance.
  • Adhere to all relevant traffic laws, regulations, and company policies to ensure safe and efficient transportation of cargo.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure that it is in good working condition and report any defects or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Load and unload cargo using appropriate equipment and techniques, ensuring that it is properly secured and distributed within the trailer to prevent shifting during transit.
  • May transport hazardous products or dangerous good, knowledge of TDG and placards.
  • Plan routes and schedules to meet delivery deadlines while maximizing fuel efficiency and minimizing downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and hours of service in compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, shippers, and receivers to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and any special instructions or requirements.
  • Handle paperwork such as bills of lading, delivery receipts, and other documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing any issues or concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Follow safety procedures at all times, including proper use of personal protective equipment, securing loads, and driving defensively in various weather and road conditions.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and lights, and report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both inside the cab and around the vehicle.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in job performance.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the job.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times, acting as a goodwill ambassador while on the road and interacting with customers and the public.

 

Terms of employment

 

The position is indeterminate, full-time (40 hours per week).

 

Expected Employment Start Date: as soon as possible

 

Wage

 

$29.50/h

Skills requirements – Education and Work experience

 

JVC Group employees are expected to support and participate in a culture of safety and promote JVC Group’s core values. Candidates will need to complete a JVC Group pre-employment D/A test and applicable competency testing.

 

Education:

 

  • Secondary (high) school required
  • Completion of an accredited driver training course
  • On the job training is provided

Mandatory Certifications:

  • H2S Alive
  • CSTS 20 (Construction Safety Training Systems)
  • Standard - Intermediate First Aid AED/CPR
  • Valid Class 1 driver’s license, with clean driving abstract (no major violations or accidents within the past three years)
  • TDG/WHMIS
  • Confined Space Entry/Monitor, Ground Disturbance and Fall Protection is an asset.

Work Experience:

Experience in the oilfield (swamper, field technician etc.) is an asset.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Must be able utilize a computer/tablet and other technology applicable to the job. Able to complete daily safety paperwork on phone app)
  • Capable of setting and managing priorities to meet all deadlines
  • Written and verbal communication skills

Language requirements:

 

Ability to communicate both written and verbally in English is required
