Join our Environment team as a Biological Technician supporting wildlife monitoring activities for a renewable energy project in the Medicine Hat region. This is a temporary, hourly contract role running from March 30, 2026 to November 13, 2026, where you will help advance responsible energy development while contributing to species protection and ecological stewardship.
Your Impact
- Conduct bird and bat post-construction mortality monitoring at an operating wind power project.
- Lead wildlife post-construction monitoring surveys, baseline wildlife surveys, and additional field-based tasks.
- Work independently or as part of a team to carry out field programs safely and effectively.
- Collect and manage field data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Prepare clear and concise field reports summarizing methods, observations, and outcomes.
- Deploy and maintain field equipment such as bat detectors and other monitoring tools.
- Support species identification, including handling bird and bat carcasses in accordance with protocols.
- Ideally 2+ years of experience conducting migratory bird surveys with strong observation skills.
- Familiarity with prairie bird species (songbirds, raptors, waterfowl, shorebirds).
- Experience with digital data collection tools and equipment setup (e.g., bat detector deployment).
- Strong attention to detail in data collection, documentation, and QA/QC application.
- Comfortable performing field work in varying conditions, including species identification involving carcasses.
- Construction monitoring experience is an asset.
- Excellent time management, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver's licence required; First Aid certification is an asset.
- Biological science degree or technical diploma is an asset.

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $25 - $33.60
MB & ON: $22.80 - $31.80
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $22.60 - $30.40
