Digital Architect - Data contract opportunities supporting enterprise architecture, data-driven services and digital transformation for a provincial government organization.
Our client is seeking experienced Digital Architects – Data to help deliver simpler, more effective public services. You will provide architectural direction across digital products, data models and system integrations. Working within cross-functional Agile teams, you will connect the long-term technical vision with practical, incremental delivery. The role combines data and solution architecture with technical leadership, developer mentoring, code review and development contributions when needed.
Who:
You will work with product owners, developers and multidisciplinary delivery teams supporting service innovation, program review and digital transformation. Teams use human-centred design, Agile methods and modern data practices. You will help them make sound architectural decisions while balancing user needs, technical work, quality and delivery priorities.
You:
You are an experienced data architect, software architect or senior data engineer who has helped cross-functional teams create new applications.
You can lead domain modelling and database design, define system boundaries and integration approaches, and guide developers toward a coherent technical direction. You communicate clearly with business stakeholders and explain architectural risks and trade-offs in terms that support decisions.
Critical Experience Requirements:
Hourly contract compensation will be discussed based on experience, engagement structure and alignment with the client’s requirements.

Critical Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with equivalencies considered.
- At least eight years as a data architect, software architect or senior data engineer, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to create new applications.
- At least five years leading cross-functional Agile product teams, providing architectural direction and mentoring technical resources.
- At least five years leading solution architecture and technical vision for large-scale enterprise projects with system integrations.
- At least four years leading domain modelling and database schema design for transactional and reporting systems.
- At least five years communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influencing decisions.
- Ability to work within Canada, cover Alberta business hours and attend Edmonton sessions when required.
- Aligning data architecture with enterprise strategy, digital services and AI-enabled capabilities.
- Data governance, metadata management, quality and responsible analytics/AI use.
- Secure development, RBAC or ABAC, and Zero Trust Architecture.
- Relational and non-relational databases, analytics platforms and AI technologies.
- Data interoperability and standardization within product delivery.
- Incremental legacy modernization across multiple releases.
- Government of Alberta IT/IM policies, standards and guidelines.
- Enterprise-scale data and digital transformation in a large, complex organization.
