The Remediation Program Management (RPM) team is your opportunity to apply your skills and join a diverse and growing team within WSP supporting our key clients in contaminated site assessment, remediation, and reclamation. We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST) Specialist to support assessments, remediation planning, and regulatory submissions for salt-impacted sites.
The role involves interpreting soil and groundwater data, running SST models, and preparing Tier 2A/2B Subsoil Remediation Guidelines in accordance with Alberta regulatory frameworks.
The SST Specialist will apply the Subsoil Salinity Tool to generate Tier 2A/2B remediation guidelines, support risk management plans, support field programs, analyze salinity and hydrogeologic data, and prepare high-quality technical reports aligned with Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and Alberta Environment & Protected Areas (EPA) requirements.
This position is located in Edmonton.
Your Impact

- Clearly identify and understand project objectives associated with progressing contaminated sites to closure, bring your ideas and solutions to the project team.
- Conduct SST assessments to generate Tier 2A and Tier 2B Subsoil Remediation Guidelines, including chloride, SAR and sodium where applicable.
- Compile and evaluate site investigation data, including soil salinity profiles, texture data, and background datasets, as required by SST methodology.
- Identify applicable receptors, evaluate salinity migration pathways, and interpret subsurface salinity distribution.
- Review and interpret soil, groundwater, geophysical surveys, and hydrogeologic datasets to support salinity delineation and guideline development.
- Identify site subareas, characterize source zones, and evaluate impacts to receptors following regulatory guidance.
- Prepare clear, defensible technical reports summarizing SST inputs, modelling results, and remediation recommendations.
- Support the development of remediation strategies, volumes, and depths based on SST outputs.
- Support field programs such as borehole drilling, groundwater sampling, and geophysical surveys.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, agrologists, hydrogeologists, engineers, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Stay current on SST software updates, regulatory changes, and best practices
The skills that set you apart
- Degree in Environmental Science or related field.
- SST certification.
- Demonstrated experience with soil and groundwater assessment, salinity investigations, or remediation projects.
- Strong understanding of Alberta's Tier 1 and Tier 2 regulatory frameworks.
- Experience using the SST and interpreting model outputs.
- Ability to analyze complex datasets and draw defensible technical conclusions.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing environmental reports.
- Professional registration as P.Ag, P. Geo, P.Eng, or similar.

Compensation:
- AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YK: $80,800 - $107,000
- MB & ON: $73,700 - $101,500
- NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $73,000 - $96,900
