About the Opportunity

Chu Cho Environmental is looking for a full-time Terrestrial Ecologist based in Prince George, BC, with flexibility to work from home when not required in the office or field, depending on project needs.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will play a key role in delivering terrestrial ecology projects across northern British Columbia, combining technical expertise with project leadership and team collaboration to support high-quality environmental consulting outcomes.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for managing and supporting terrestrial ecology projects from proposal development through field execution and final reporting, while contributing to team leadership, mentoring staff, and supporting client relationships and ongoing project growth.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and supporting terrestrial ecology projects across soils, vegetation, reclamation, and ecosystem mapping from planning through to reporting
  • Supporting and occasionally participating in remote field programs while maintaining a primarily office-based workflow
  • Managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure effective and efficient execution
  • Contributing to technical review processes and supporting the development of high-quality reports and assessments
  • Mentoring and supporting junior and intermediate staff while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Coordinating with internal teams, external partners, regulators, and Tsay Keh Dene Nation stakeholders
  • Building and maintaining client relationships while contributing to proposal development and business development activities
  • Ensuring work aligns with environmental legislation, professional standards, and internal QA/QC processes

About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a directly related discipline, and ideally 5+ years of progressive experience in terrestrial ecology or environmental consulting, particularly in soils, reclamation, vegetation, and ecosystem mapping. You will demonstrate experience managing or supporting staff, conducting remote fieldwork in challenging environments, and applying environmental legislation, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks.

We recognize that strong terrestrial ecologists often follow varied career pathways. Experience gained through consulting environments, graduate research such as an MSc, government roles, or hands-on field-based positions will all be considered, provided your background demonstrates strong technical capability and applied project experience.

The following are required:

  • Registration as a Professional Biologist (RPBio) or P.Ag in good standing, or immediate eligibility for registration
  • A valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to remote field sites, including multi-day trips during peak field seasons
  • Comfort working outdoors in all seasons and variable weather conditions

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience in environmental consulting with project management responsibilities
  • Strong technical understanding of terrestrial systems, particularly in soils, reclamation, vegetation, and ecosystem mapping
  • Familiarity with northern BC ecosystems, including vegetation and soil systems
  • Experience contributing to or leading multidisciplinary environmental projects
  • Strong technical writing skills, including report preparation and review
  • Experience applying environmental legislation, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with data analysis, statistical methods, and technical reporting workflows
  • Ability to mentor or support junior and intermediate staff
  • Experience working with First Nations governments or Indigenous-owned organizations
