Job Description
You want Purpose. Growth. Opportunity. People who get it.
We are the home of ambitious, passionate, and innovative world shapers.
With an unmatched breadth and depth of engineering, advisory and science-based expertise, our global minds unite to power local solutions. We are pathfinders and impact makers.
We are Visioneers. We are WSP.
The Opportunity
Shape Canada's most complex flood and water systems - and fast-track your technical career!
In the Prairies & Northern Canada region, hydraulic modelling is not routine municipal work, it's where Canada's hardest water challenges live. From flat-slope flooding to ice-affected hydraulics and climate-driven extremes, this role places you at the centre of nationally significant water systems.
This is a chance to build deep technical authority, gain exposure to complex systems quickly, and contribute to projects that directly impact communities, Indigenous partners, and long-term water resilience across Canada.
Your Impact
- Lead and deliver advanced hydraulic modelling for complex systems across Prairie and Northern basins (e.g., Red, Assiniboine, Saskatchewan, Mackenzie).
- Develop and review 1D/2D flood models using tools such as HEC-RAS 2D, MIKE FLOOD/MIKE 21, TUFLOW, TELEMAC, or equivalent.
- Model extreme events, climate-driven flood scenarios, ice-affected flows, and low-gradient floodplains.
- Provide technical authority on floodplain mapping, flood risk assessments, drainage, river hydraulics, and infrastructure resilience.
- Contribute to dam safety, flood consequence, and emergency spillway analyses where applicable.
- Work directly with Indigenous communities, municipalities, utilities, and regulators, supporting technically sound and community-appropriate solutions.
- Mentor junior modellers and help shape best-practice hydraulic standards within WSP.
Collaborate nationally with WSP's hydrotechnical, climate resilience, and water security leaders.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- 5-10 years of experience in hydraulic modelling and hydrotechnical engineering, with a focus on open-channel hydraulics and dam breach assessments.
- Proficient in hydraulic modelling tools and techniques; experience with water management infrastructure design is a strong asset.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering;
- Eligibility for P.Eng. (or already registered) in a Canadian province.
- Proven ability to lead projects, manage budgets and timelines, and build strong client relationships.
- Passionate about delivering sustainable, community-focused solutions and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
- Experience with Indigenous infrastructure, dam safety, ice hydraulics, or northern systems is an asset, but not a requirement.
