This is your chance to support the civil construction of an iconic, long-term land development project in the Bow Valley. As a Municipal Inspector, during construction season, you'll lead on-site field inspection and contractor coordination. In the winter months, you'll apply your construction expertise to strengthen design inputs and tender documentation.
You'll join a growing municipal team shaping resilient, high-quality infrastructure for one of Alberta's most recognizable communities.
This role is flexible for candidates based in Canmore or able to commute from Calgary.
Your Impact
- Provide on-site inspections for municipal infrastructure construction, ensuring quality, safety, and conformance with approved designs.
- Track field progress for cost, schedule, and change control, identifying deviations and recommending corrective actions to the Project Manager.
- Lead or participate in construction progress meetings, ensuring priorities are clear, issues are escalated, and decisions are captured accurately.
- Maintain project documentation, issue logs, change order logs, and meeting notes to support real-time decision-making.
- Support the Project Manager and design team with proactive updates, technical insight, and coordination guidance.
- Review contractor performance and verify quality assurance measurements for payment certification.
- Contribute constructability reviews and provide technical support during design and tender preparation.
- Respond to contractor RFIs and clarification requests in coordination with the design team.
- Prepare engineering certifications and other required documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A Civil Engineering degree (APEGA-registered) or a Civil/Construction Engineering Technology diploma with extensive municipal construction experience.
- 10+ years in contract administration, project coordination, and field inspection for municipal infrastructure (roads, water, sewer, drainage, and land development).
- Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and field procedures, with confidence navigating contractor and engineering team environments.
- Proficiency with Civil3D, AutoCAD, MS Office, PDF/Bluebeam markup tools, and digital field documentation processes.
- Experienced in cost management, schedule tracking, risk considerations, and development/administration of contract documents.
- Comfortable working outdoors across varying site conditions and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver's license and ability to use a personal vehicle suitable for fieldwork (reimbursed per policy).
