The Opportunity - Start Your Aquatic Science Journey With Us
Looking for a role that lets you get outside, explore rivers and lakes, and learn hands-on environmental skills? As an Aquatic Science Student, you'll support field programs across Alberta and Saskatchewan (potentially Edmonton, Calgary, or Saskatoon-based). You'll help collect real-world data, contribute to environmental protection, and gain experience working alongside biologists, technicians, and multidisciplinary project teams.
Your Impact
• Support aquatic field programs for infrastructure, resource, transportation, and environmental projects.
• Help collect data for fish and fish habitat assessments, water quality monitoring, and baseline studies.
• Assist with environmental monitoring activities following established protocols and safety requirements.
• Learn to operate and maintain basic field equipment (GPS units, YSI meters, nets, traps).
• Participate in fish-related tasks such as netting, trapping, and assisting certified staff during electrofishing activities.
• Prepare accurate field notes and contribute supporting information for reports and deliverables.
• Collaborate with project teams and participate in meetings and briefings.
• Support a proactive and positive safety culture in all field and office work.
The Skills That Set You Apart
• Currently enrolled in a diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
• Interest in aquatic science, fieldwork, and environmental protection.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather, terrain, and remote locations.
• Familiarity with aquatic sampling, water quality tools, or field equipment is an asset - training provided.
• Experience with boats, ATVs, or snowmobiles is helpful (not required).
• A curiosity-driven mindset, eagerness to learn, and ability to work safely and collaboratively.
• Valid driver's licence and clean Driver's Abstract.

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $22.00 - $25.50
MB & ON: $20.20 - $24.00/
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $19.50 - $23.00
